It's actually a fair bit different from a puddle or pond, given they are so totally enclosed; it gets a fair bit grimmer than a normal small body of water.
True that. Ammonia buildup inside the orb has nowhere to go (you can't change the water, and the branch doesn't filter), so after a few weeks the shrimp are basically breathing in their own waste. Now imagine the same tank after a few years.
