We do a similar thing in Norway, just that the commercials are shown free of charge for organizations helping drug- and alcohol-addicts, people with different illnesses, victims of domestic abuse etc.

I think thats what we should do in the US. The holidays can be cheery for all but of some it is a dreadful and heartbreaking time.

On ANZAC day it's only in the morning. Shops are also closed in the mornings then.
