Why is being an atheist such a big deal? Like, shouldn't it just be good enough that he did all these wonderful things without having to make a big deal out of that?
I'm sitting here wondering whether this post is saying atheism is good or bad... I mean, is it saying that he did all this great stuff, so maybe being atheist is a good thing? Or is it saying that he did all this great stuff BUT he's atheist - his one downfall?
OR does atheism have nothing to do with any of it?
Its basically trying to point out that not all atheists are assholes just like not all religious people are as 'pure' as they make themselves out to be.
I personally think the point is that he won't let his religion influence his work, he won't force it on the citizens, and he certainly didn't need to display his religion to boost his vote count. Das all :)
Also, if I may, if he were religious, there's that extra motive for being such an altruist. It's called divine retribution and as some would say, a man who does good deeds only because he expects to be rewarded in the afterlife is not actually a good man.
There are good people who are Atheists. There are good people who are Christians. There are bad people who are Atheists. There are bad people who are Christians. Stop blaming everything on religion. Or, well, non-religion.
No, it's not. Stop generalizing. I'm a Christian, and Im not offended at all. Look a the comment above yours. You can be an atheist and a good guy, and you can be a Christian and a bad guy. Don't be a dick.
The thing is, is that some will. They are going to scream the loudest, get all the attention and thus make you all look like that.

The problem lies in that it isn't just an Atheist/Christian issue, it's an Atheist/Religion issue. Since the beginning, Atheists have been shunned and vilified by religions and still are to a degree, even by a secular media.
.
Even though society has made great strides in social advancement, Atheists still rank lowest as a social minority in an increasingly secular US:

I have never seen bigotry towards atheists on here, but at least twice a week I see a guest (for the most part) being ones to someone who believes in a Higher Power. If you don't believe in God, good for you. Just don't act like you're a special snowflake and that you're better than people who do.
I agree. I used to be agnostic until I found Jesus so I don't hate on Athiests at all but every day (a lot on this site) I get hate from athiests to religious people.
I agree this man is amazing, but...how does being Atheist add or take away from his political career? Are you saying only atheists can be good people or...? seriously people just accept that we all have different beliefs and quit judging me for having or not having a religion
OK...I'm willing to listen to what Good Guy President Jose has to say. Not as interested in the opinion of someone who DOESN'T do anything and wants to cash in by tagging his/her opinion onto a list of Jose's admirable qualities.
