They did hang out long enough to do something about mooring their boats though.
In at least one location on the coast of Maine, archeologist have found anchoring bolts that would seem to be of viking origin.

Statistically, it's better to use the double guess because you have a 50% chance as opposed to a 33% to get the question right.
