Some black people ruin it for other black people. 10 out of 100 blacks will label all of them as a thug, as a gangster. Same goes for Muslims. You see a picture on the internet with someone in Muslim attire? Oh, he's a terrorist for sure, because one guy is labeled, all are labelled.
Well blacks are African and whites are European, but it's not a bad label to have. If someone called me black I wouldn't mind, but if they called me a thug or something racist or stereotypical there would be a problem.
Yeah. People are proud of where they came from. I'm not only proud of that, but the things I have accomplished. Race is a label in the sense that I can wear it proudly even if I didn't get to choose it.
What do you have against labels mgoveia? Black people are black and white people are white. It is a fact that they're different races. There's no point in outright ignoring facts.
And I'm not sephoria, but where do you gut off assuming someone hasn't earned anything in life based solely on the fact that they're proud of their race?
LOL Where do I get off? It's a natural assumption that some who is proud of something they had no control over has nothing better to be proud of. That said, it IS an assumption, and isn't correct 100% of the time. If you're one of those cases, feel free to let go of any tushy trouble you may experience over the matter.
Btw, I must say I'm surprised. I thought FS would be the LAST place that labels would be embraced, what with all the enlightened, idealistic teenagers around...
Okay wait. You think that if someone is proud of their culture, it's because they have nothing else to be proud of? Last time I checked, you can be proud of whatever the hell you want.
"It's a natural assumption that some who is proud of something they had no control over has nothing better to be proud of."
Are you serious? I'm proud of the few sports trophies I got as a kid (and this was a ways back, before the whole "trophy for participation" thing), I'm proud of my educational progress, I'm proud every time my car beaks down and I manage to fix it myself, and I'm also proud of my cat for being able to jump to the top of the doors in my house in a single bound. Literally everyone I know is the same, they're proud of their own accomplishments as well things that they have no control over, like the accomplishments of sports teams. Are you telling me your experience is the complete opposite, where no one you know is proud of anything that wasn't accomplished by their own efforts? No sports teams, no national pride?
Also, you still haven't addressed your issue with labels.
There is no winning argument in an argument about and/or against someones beliefs, their ideas, and how they perceive things. You're neither winning nor losing sephoria.
Just because the majority is on your side doesn't make you correct. The majority of people at one point and time thought everything revolved around the earth, the majority of people believed that the earth was flat, the majority of people believed that buying a piece of paper gave them immediate access to heaven. The majority is wrong just as often as the minority.
metalman, you can certainly win an argument about beliefs, and you don't have to be correct to do so (obviously). It's about breaking down their belief to it's bedrock and exposing any inherent flaws in order to show them errors in their belief.
I will add that I agree that the belief of the majority is never guaranteed to be correct.
I can't decide whether you two need reading comprehension, or a reassessment of your own values.
Btw, Metalman, you're probably making the most sense of anyone here. Not that that's saying much considering the FS community and all...
Lastly, if you have to announce yourSELF the winner, seph, you lost.
I feel like what he means in a general sense is. You can be proud of your race but you didn't do anything to be that race so it shouldn't be a big deal. Because you didn't work for anything. You just are.
I mean he has a bit of a point. It's not like you had control. You were born. Good for you. But you didn't exactly do anything amazing. Now I'm gonna stop before I start twisting mgoveias words
You're fine, Sparklez. seph is just booty-blistered because my comment hit too close to home. How about I let a wiser man than I explain the point a bit more eloquently.

Found a clip with a bonus about national pride.
I think that if you've earned anything in your life, national and ethnic pride become even sillier, which is why I made the previous assumption. If you indeed HAVE earned something to be proud of, tell me about THAT. I couldn't care less about the other stuff.
Not even a minute in he's says he doesn't understand national pride. If he doesn't understand it, his opinion on it doesn't really hold a lot of water.
True story. My mom is very nerdy and geeky, and people say she is "articulate for a black person". Growing up, my friends would always say, "your mom doesn't act black; she's very white". And I constantly hear that I "act white". But fuck them. I am who I am, and I won't apologize for it.
Yeah I see this a lot too, and I'm pretty much as white as you can get. I wouldn't say fuck them, but it would certainly be silly to apologize for acting outside your own stereotype.
Jealous of what? I'm automatically jealous because apparently he said something deep and people are on his dick about it even though he's a racist asshole? Yep. Jealous. All you brainwashed idiots
First off, insulting never gets your point across. Makes you look like more of an ass.
Second, how about you tell us why he's that way rather than just ranting off.
And third, Of, course you aren't jealous the guest has no idea what they're talking about.
Guys, sparklez is just jealous because, as he has just stated, people are always on Charles Barkley's dick. Sparklez clearly isn't getting some and his hands must be cramping up badly now. You're just sad, sparklez. You make yourself look sad :)
Poor children. You obviously don't know me. Frostbite. Just because we've argued before doesn't mean you know anything about me. If you think that you must be stupider than your comments make you out to be. I would never be jealous of a man who is a racist asshole. You're attempts to argue are pathetic people
Whenever I see him say something deep online I'm like "Oh what a wise fellow." then I remember that my dad and his coworkers occasionally have to shoo him away from their workplace shouting "GET OUT OF HERE, BARKLEY!" for illegally dumping boxes and other trash in their dumpster and I laugh.
And I'm not sephoria, but where do you gut off assuming someone hasn't earned anything in life based solely on the fact that they're proud of their race?

@seph: Go right ahead. (btw, for those wondering, this is where I get off making assumptions about people)
@s: At this point, you should be able to noodle that through on your own.
