I know you guys probably hear this a lot but be grateful you even have a phone. Some teens out there are around 17, 18 and they've never even heard of an iphone, let alone seen one.
I have an iPhone 4 that was passed to me by my brother. The camera doesn't work, one speaker is shitty, the main button doesn't work unless you almost break your finger pressing it, AND IM STILL GRATEFUL. I mean, free phone! Haha. I also didn't had a smartphone until two years ago. I remember when I was little I owned one of those legendary nokias, but it was only for games (snake)...unlike kids today, but I donMt blame them for having been born in a time with advanced technology, we can't stay behind forever.

I've had this really cruddy enV3 for four years. It was literally falling apart: the memory was full, the paint on the buttons was peeling off, the camera was junk, and it made this awful clicking noise when I opened it. It was literally falling apart! And all my friends laughed at me for having the lamest phone ever, too. I got an iPhone 5C (that I saved the money up myself) back in August, and I am so grateful to have it. It's my first smartphone. And I can't stand all those little 7th graders that ride my bus that have had the iPhone 5S since it came out and are saying that they're getting the iPhone 6 for Christmas because they can't stand their old "piece of crap" anymore. It just pisses me off that there are kids, younger than me (I'm 17) that are so ungrateful for something like that. They should be grateful they at least have a phone.
I kinda had to payed for mine too, because my iphone given to me for free, but in exchange of me giving my old one, which I saved up for months to buy, to my sister. It doesn't feel bad, I agree, kids should work more for it
Of course in my case most phones are lucky to survive a year or less, the only phone I've owned longer than a year was an old nokia, but sadly even it couldn't stand up to a 3 ton piece of equipment.
I had to buy my iPhone (first phone ever) this year (age 18) with my own money (from refereeing soccer) and I'm paying for the phone payments as well. It's made me respect the phone because I know how much work it took for me to get it so I treasure it that much more.
I actually bought my galaxy s4 after I did a summer job, my dad said if I buy it he'll pay for data.

I have a Verizon Motorola BT51, which is a flip phone, and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'm only 15, so I don't really need to get ahold of anyone. The only reason I actually have it is so my parents can pick me up from afterschool practice or friends' houses. Otherwise, I don't use it.
I think the key to all this is either did you buy it yourself, or what are you using it for. If you bought it yourself, you know how much time and work it took to save up for it and thus value it. If you know what you're using it for, you won't disrespect it because you have a set plan; it's not simple entertainment if it has a purpose.
Okay, so, we need more context here. Is it "My parents won't BUY me the new iPhone" or "My parents won't LET me buy the new iPhone"? Because if the second scenario is the actual one, their parents are dickheads.

Just kidding, kids these days amirite?
If kids nowadays did some work around the house more, like we had to do when we were young, maybe their parents would change their minds. If you have to wash the dishes or take out the trash every once in a while, don't whine about it!
