Ooo.
Not saying you're wrong, but be careful with that phrase, "moral police." It is rather evocative of Orwellian ideology.
The last time the US tried to legislate morality, it was an abject failure.
Well the parents can only go so far. They may raise their child to be an angel, but they might still get drunk accidentally, or accidentally kill a rapist to escape.
My ex told me that a guy tried break into someone's house through the skylight. The skylight broke through and the guy who was breaking in sued the people who owned the house for having crappy skylights. He got away with it
similar thing happened with a guy trying to rob a house while the family was away. He'd been hiding in their garage but got locked in when they left, because of course they didn't expect a burglar to be hiding in there, and he was stuck in there for a couple days- when they came home and found him he sued them and won. it's disgusting.
They do this in Saudi Arabia... if a girl is molested/raped or anything in between the victim can decide his end... ranging from being stoned/lashed to death (by not only officials but the family can participate) or him literally losing his head
I'm calling bullshit on that.
I find it incredibly hard to believe given that for all intents and purposes in Saudi Arabia, being a rape victim is illegal, for for which the punishment is stoning.
Although he was in fact convicted of the crime, his defense lawyer managed to convince the judge presiding over his sentencing that the defendant was a victim of "affluenza", that his parents never taught him right from wrong and that he's truly not at fault just because he basically claimed he was "ignorant of the law". Although ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law, in my opinion he knew damn well what the hell he was doing. He's just spoiled and thinks he can get what he wants with money.
No. This is BULLSHIT. That little shit who stole his dads car deserves life in prison and the girl deserves no punishment. She was just trying to survive. This is retarded
All you can do is blame the judge. He was convicted of the crime, but also tried as a juvenile when he should have been tried as an adult. His punishment was a hefty fine that he would have no problems paying and some community service. Which the thing with sentencing in federal court is that its done by a judge. A judge is given recommendations based on previous cases and even a sentencing table to determine time based on the level of the offense and previous criminal history. Although he is given recommendations, he doesn't have to follow them. He can completely disregard them if he wishes to.
