(he). I've read No Safety in Nunbers trilogy, nearly done with the Inheritance Cycle right now, and I finished the Percy Jackson series years ago. I think it was like in 2013, maybe 2012.
I don't read mainstream books because
A. Everyone else is. Why follow the crowd when you can do what YOU want
B. They don't interest me. Literally. I don't know who Gryffindor is. All I know about Ron is that he's a wizard and ginger.
C. Many many spoilers are available on the Internet, and sometimes I cannot control myself.
"mainstream books"
these are books that have become popular because they are great.
-
Most people read books because others are reading them and they have been recommended. Books work well because someone reads the book, tell others, and the cycle continues. Just because a book series is popular/has a movie/has merch, doesn't mean it's a bad "mainstream" book.
-
The word 'mainstream' is one of my least favorite words as the whole way media and such works, is because it people share the good stuff. (ie. just because a book/movie/band is almost unheard of, does not mean it's good)
-
Harry Potter, is a series that was and is currently being shared by millions upon millions of readers. It's not 'mainstream', it's good.
-
And about you not being interested, that's fine. Just remember
popular ≠ bad.
@bookhoarder. It's a different case scenario when you say you don't read it because it's main stream not that you have no interest in it. You have the choice to not read something because it doesn't interest you. Something being mainstream shouldn't affect your choice on whether to like it or not like it. It's should be a matter of personal opinion and not what society thinks. Sorry it doesn't interest you, but don't attack the series because it's mainstream, it's slightly immature.
I never said popular books are bad. I just don't like them. Mainstream books, yes, are we ll recommended. I just find them overrated. Also I've said I don't know who Gryffindor is
This has nothing to do with your knowledge of who Gryffindor is. It is the principle of you degrading a series because you find it mainstream. It's different to not like something because you have no interest in it, or you find it overrated, or because it's mainstream. So what is it?
Sorry, I find it odd. A lot of things that are mainstream, I can agree with that. But it's a broad generalization to say something is overrated because it's mainstream. Brushing your teeth is mainstream but it isn't overrated. Just because something seems mainstream doesn't make it overrated
Can you please try to understand that some people may enjoy something even if it is mainstream? I'm not trying to a start an Internet argument or calling your opinions wrong in anyway. I just didn't understand your opinion on the series and the discussion turned into a broader reason of subject. To insult a fandom because it's mainstream is kind of mean. A lot of people enjoy the series whether it's mainstream or not, overrated or not. I understand that fandoms have a lot of new fans join because it was turned into a movie and it heightens popularity but it doesn't mean older fans like myself belittle them because of the fact they watched the movie first. It's good that people enjoy literature in any form. Television or movie or book or e reader.
Does it really matter that much if my opinion is different? Jesus. I just have a different opinion. You don't need to type paragraphs like this, it's almost like you're trying to make me feel regret for having my opinion when it is a known fact that this fucking fandom is based on one. Stop riding on me because I think differently, okay?
I respect that your opinion is different. IM happy you think differently. I'm asking you to be nice and respectful of others with different people as well. Sorry that you think I'm all up in your business. No one cares as long as you use common sense and are respectful of others. I'm trying to be nice so good bye and have the day you deserve, sir.
I'm just gonna put this here, but don't you dare call Harry Potter overrated when you haven't so much as picked up one of the books and read a single page. So many people, including myself, dedicated so much of their lives to that series because it is so amazing. And tbh, you've read like 3 book series so you're not a book hoarder. Come back when you've read more thanks. Tip, dont anger Harry Potter fans
no idea what you're talking about. Also, still probably not going to read Harry Potter when there are better things to read in our world. Good day to you, people who can't take that other people have opinions to.
How is it possible to judge which books are better than Harry Potter when you haven't even read them?
.
"Cookies are clearly superior to brownies, because i've only tried cookies, and too many other people like brownies - for which reason they're completely overrated."
.
There is no opinion, you're just making assumptions.
@snowroll that was a perfect explanation of what we're trying to say. We aren't saying you're opinion is wrong but we think you should actually read the series before you say they are bad /just/ because a lot of people have read them
Um... Loki... You should know that the Harry Potter fandom is like the mafia, once you're in, you don't get out until you die. Oh! And also, The Harry Potter fandom, is, in my opinion and probably that of many others, the king of all fandoms.(I use commas too much, I just realised that.) But might I ask what book in the series you're on?!
I see where this comes from, but its only a problem when they make a joke about fred dying in the last movie. And you just underwent the sever trama of watching all your favorite characters in the same movie right before you get on here.
I see where this comes from but don't see it as a problem. Well that is unless they make a joke about Fred being killed and you just underwent the trauma of watching your favorite characters die all in the last two parts of your favorite movies. But yeah it's fine.
