Because it's more common for them to end up in abusive relationships (although of course males can be victims too). It's not only important for boys to know they shouldn't hit, but also girls should learn they shouldn't stand any of it if they are in the situation.

I felt bad...I wanted to say "who cares if you're a man. Men shouldn't hit women and women shouldn't hit men either!"

He didn't mean it as in he is a male. I'm sure he meant in the way that, a "real" man is good. With everyone, notjust women. Rightful and responsible.

I really don't think so, but then again that's just my opinion I suppose. I've spoken to kids (boys) about this kind of stuff before and they have responded in the same way. They've just been taught that men can't hit women and that's it...which is why I was a little sad. To each their own.
