Russia. We attack them they will keep drawing back. In WWI the Germans tried to invade Russia but the Russians kept falling back. By the time the Germans got to center Russia they were low on troops, supplies, and morale. The Russians could do the same to us if we tried invading them.
Good point but there is just one small problem: both countries will most likely resort to nukes if they feel the fighting is dragging on and/or they want to end it and get it over with. So I guess it isn't about military tactics or prowess -- at the end of the day it's about who presses the button quick enough. Scary :/
IIRC, the Geneva Convention isn't enforcable because it's up to each individual country to keep tabs on their own soldiers and their actions. I think it is a basic moral system though...
lemme do some research and come back in about a week because I'll probably be distracted by more stuff on FS

Yes, you are correct :) Paragraph 78 states civilians must never be the object of attack. Still, rules don't stop anyone in war :(
*sigh* All's fair, apparently...
Sorry your reply didn't show up yet. But I guess the governments want to look good so they won't fire the first shot. The nukes would send us back to the Stone Age. No internet, communication, etc.

No probs. And yeah, exactly.
As Einstein said: I know not what World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
Most likely the U.S.. It has far more military funding and its military technology and advanced are far beyond the majority of other nations. Not only that, but there are far more active military U.S. soldiers then there are Russians. Both have their merits but most wars with the U.S. are lopsided victory.
Welllll, considering the majority of Russia's population is on the West, and the U.S. is in some type of world connection (oh idk the UN) with Europe, and Ukraine is in Europe it makes sense the above strategy is in use.
Except I'm pretty sure LITERALLY ALL OF RUSSIA'S CITIES live on the European side of Russia. No one lives in Siberia. If you wanted to get to any people you'd have to get across the entirety of Russia, a country that has more surface area than Pluto.
How are you sure she is from the north? And by the way you can be like "it's enough for me" but you won't have shit when they fight across Europe, and I also don't think you will fight in the US army. So please dont think like this and act like war is a cool thing.
I actually intend to become a Ranger.
Also, a war on such a scale wouldn't stay in Europe. The US and Russia are huge and influential, and have a lot of allies. The war would make it to Asia one way or another, and should that happen, I will welcome all the help we can get.
people, please, I'm from the north, and that's not all, I'm from Hanoi, the capital. There are a lot of people from north Vietnam willing to help the US if some thing crazy like war happens.
WW1 Some Serbian assassins killed the archduke of Austria-Hungary, declared war on Serbia, Russia defended them,Germany defended A-H, Germany attacked France through Belgium, UK protected Belgium, US supplied UK and france before declaring war on Germany after they sunk neutral american ships.
WW2 Hilter (a messenger in the great war and a phycopath) got to power and then said he could make Germany great again
As many of the comments stated, there is no way to avoid going through Europe, since in order to trigger a war Russia will need to invade some of the Eastern European countries. However, the greater risk is Isis moving to pakistan and afghanistan and eventually attacking India. That would be a fight between countries of roughly 2 billion people. Russia will back the stans and the US will back India. The whole war will hinge on who China sides with, as the North Koreans will likely side with China regardless. Japan will side with the US and in an effort to attack Russia, Europe will get caught in the middle. As a compromise we will all decide that its best to fight in Australia, and we'll all line up civil war style in the australian desert. Africa and south america will just sit around and laugh.

I absolutely love how you've explained this. Thumbs up! :)
It's so scary. How easily one war can spread like wildfire and turn into a global scale attack...
America didn't take part in the beginning of either of the first world wars...but most countries in Europe did...so why are you all blaming us for something we didn't even start?
I was reading through the comments waiting to see someone bring this up. Technically, we didn't start anything. We just found a way to get involved at the last minute.
Quite honestly we just all need to stop invading each other. Accept borders, get over it, and work to create a better world through science and technology. If we weren't so damn busy fighting each other we'd be on Mars by now.
And population control. Hence, why we must use our money for science and technology and terraform Mars. Then we can have space wars and that would be so much cooler.
But things like space flight. Because WWI was the first time of mass production of planes. This further helped research and brought us to learn about rockets years later.
trai, you don't really think it's all about borders, do you?
Because if so, you need to wake up and smell the blood.
Also, war does aid scientific advancement.
The need to heal better, move faster, and get stronger is one hell of a motivator.
So just how did the US start WW1 or WW2? Plus, who rebuilt Europe after WW2 instead of just taking reparations?(If you do't know, google Marshall Plan.)
The way England and France won WW1--by making Germany pay war reparations--is one of the causes of WW2.
The marshall plan was very good for the economy in Europe, however it was more out of fear Europe would become communist than it was so Europe would get better.

These are links pertaining to the US code of conduct, not necessarily Laws of War (I don't think). For all intents and purposes though, US soldiers follow the Code as a law I think.
I haven't read any of these in depth except the wikipedia article.

That has never been the motivation of a major conflict.

The plan was equal parts aid and containing communism.
