I could see both having applications, like thermal for fire fighters to 'see' hotspots in walls. I have an ir digital camera though I don't use it very often it's been fairly useful when needed. It'll take a damn good picture regardless of the light level.
Why would you look at people's thermal profiles in a locker room? Check if they have a knife hidden in their butt?
I suppose it all depends on the quality of the thermal camera. I have the Seek Thermal camera which is a pretty basic $200 thing but it's fun to play around with. Of course, you can get a high quality $5000-$20,000 piece of magnificence but I doubt that any of us actually need something of that high quality. Something that good needs to be specialized, such as being able to count minute differences in temperature such as in a crime scene, or being able to find dead bodies in a fiery room. I just use mine to look at spinning drill bits and stovetops and whatnot.
"Goodbye, grandma." You sob. As you lean in to hug her corpse for one last time, you hear something. It's steady, it's strong, and it's there.
It's a heartbeat.
She's been dead for a day.
Exactly. Curse of the time lords much? While reading this I'm like "oh no" "just stop" "no you will cause the end of humanity" "nono just watch doctor who and know why this is a terrible idea" "science pls no"
They can all be hacked. Imagine a hacker suddenly snapping your back, or stopping your heart. It can all be done remotely. And it's been done before in experiments, but fortunately never used in a homicidal act.
