As long as they don't go overboard, this isn't a bad way to raise children. When I fucked up as a kid, getting the belt was no problem, since my parents never hit hard enough to actually harm me. A little pain to help teach the lesson, since most young kids cannot be reasoned with using words. I know I couldn't be. You explain to me why what I did was wrong, that's not gonna sink in and I'll just do it again. They beat me a little, and I did not want that to happen again. This served to help keep me out of trouble until my mind was developed enough so that I could understand why my choices were wrong. They also taught against violence, and I ended up just fine.

Actually, I never got any of them.. the worst thing my dad did was flipped a few tables (which some are quite expensive) once in a while and then made a huge bonfire outside (but we couldn't join in cuz he'd get even angrier)

None. My parents didn't use violence to solve problems, and didn't lead with a bad example for us kids.
