Those helmets have always pissed me the hell off. They look so cumbersome and inelegant, more for shock and fear factor than mobility and comfort. Look at the helmets from Gondor and Rohan (Lord of the Rings), their helmets are the conical ones with the nose guard. Of course there are the open eyes and mildly exposed cheekbones but the visibility is so much better. You don't need armor if you're never hit, you can help not being hit by actually being able to see the damn sword aimed at your noggin. I imagine looking through those helmets as hot from your body heat and breath, damp and dank from your breath, and dark and fuzzy like looking through a stretched sock. Sure only an armor piercing weapon can go through that heavy plate, but everything else'll give you a concussion because you can't see well enough to avoid it and if you did you're too uncomfortable to bother.
