so true. I don't mind when people are atheists but I do mind when they say "oh that miracle that you think happened to you? it didn't" I mean come on let people have their faith.

At the same time, I find it rude when Christians/Muslims/Jews/whatevers thank their God before they thank the doctor who saved their life.....my friend's father is a surgeon and gets this all the time, and it's really disrespectful, especially since half the time they'd blame him instead of their God if it went wrong.
(this wasn't meant to sound snappy because I just realised it did, I was just adding to the conversation/trying to start one and I completely agree with you)
I think they thank their God first because their God is the one who put the surgeon/doctor into their life to save them. I think you're reading into it wrong. Christians, for example, are technically supposed to thank God everyday just for being alive and having another day on Earth. And I'm sure it's not only religious people that would blame the surgeon. Plenty of people would. It's not right, but it's very common to want to put someone or something at blame when something goes wrong, it's kind of human nature.

I still find it disrespectful. I mean, imagine if you were a life guard and saved some lady's kid, only for her to say 'Thank God for this miracle!' and then ignore you? Or if you didn't manage to save him and she blamed you? It seems a bit of a double standard, to thank God for the good things but blame others for the bad.
god didn't save you. He gave you the support that was used to save you. He gave you the doctor who could and did save you. He didn't stick his almighty finger in your liver and fix it.
free will. He chose to not micromanage the mortal realm to force us into molds; he allows us to choose what we want to do and believe. So how does he know what's gonna happen if humans are so arbitrary? Does this mean he's actually controlling us because he knows what we're gonna do? Imagine there's a cup of your favorite drink and a cup of potassium cyanide. Drink either or, I won't even be in the room. I know you chose your favorite drink because that's what [you] will always do. He knows your thought processes, so he knows what's gonna be your next move.
What if you don't want either?
He's basically saying love me or I'll burn and torture you forever
And if he knows my next move then he created me knowing that I'll become an atheist and that I'll get tortured in hell beforehand
As an atheist I enjoy supernatural and other mythologies and legends, I find them intriguing.
We do not just decide that there is no God or supernatural force, no, our atheism is a direct result of a deficit of evidence. Until you can prove that your God is demonstrable then we can talk
:-)
well the "proof" that people have shown apparently isn't "good enough" for atheists around the world. honestly I don't think anything will be enough for some people. however, it's enough for others, helping many people (more than it hurts, I think) around the world as well. my mythology teacher in college put a good light on it. he said, "spiritual people had nothing and found something to make them spiritual. atheists had something and found nothing to prove the existence of spirituality." he considers atheism a religion as well, because atheists believe wholly there is no God, gods, etc. but just like Christians and Bhuddists and Muslims and Jews and the rest, the good ones are the ones who say, "you believe in something different than me? awesome! let's both believe what we want and not get in each other's faces about it!"
The proof we need is anything that is demonstrable pertaining to your God. Things like the bible, miracle claims and faith are not considered evidence because it can't be scientifically tested. And if it's enough for you then you're just plain gullible.
I don't know how many times I've said this but ATHEISM IS NOT NOR HAS IT EVER BEEN A RELIGION NOR WILL IT EVER BE A RELIGION. Atheism is a lack of belief in a god or gods that it.
And to get to your point of how religion has done more good than harm is laughable. Do 5 minutes of unbiased research and out find an overwhelmingly amount of atrocities in the name of religions.
And finally if we don't challenge the way people think then we won't change and stop progressing as a society.
but we HAVE changed how people think. even in just 50 years. BUT IF WE KEEP PUTTING EACH OTHER DOWN BY CALLING EACH OTHER GULLIBLE WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. that keeps us from progressing more than anything. lack of tolerance. think about how much farther everyone could go by working together rather than saying, "you're wrong!" "no YOU'RE wrong!" and you're just a jerk for making me believe I could have a logical discussion with you.
well my church took part in a gay pride parade. and we have a women's empowerment group too, that many non-Christian women go to (they just feel it empowers them). also, I meant "we" as in humanity. but you get the gist.
that's what I'm saying. maybe way back when, it did. but we're following the most basic rules of Christianity, as in love thy neighbor. also I've read the Bible and IT doesn't condemn women's rights. that's just how times were back then.
I used to follow your religion I was studying to become a minister. I went out to find reasons that supported or justified my beliefs but not only did I not find them I found a mountain of evidence against it. I pretty much know the bible like the back of my hand.
Gays Should be Put to Death
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them. (NRSV) — Leviticus 20:13
Women are not equal
I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
Timothy 2:12
And
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.
Corinthians 14:34
So you are going against your gods will. The bible hasn't changed humanity has and without the help or need for a god.
You have to follow the entire thing not cherry pick the good stuff and throw away the bad. You're making your own moral system that way. You might as well have and further develop your own rather than going to an ancient book for advice.
You just took every verse you quoted from a part of the bible from which 99% of the laws written there don't pertain to modern-day Christianity. I'm not gonna explain in depth, but to summarize those laws are outdated. Not to be confused with "those laws aren't true", (some still apply, like most of the Ten Commandments and views -- not the "put to death" laws, but the actual viewpoints -- like disapproval of homosexuality.) So no, the bible (current teachings) does not disapprove of women's rights. Also, I want to point out that my view is against gays, but this /isn't/ a call to hate on them. I may disagree with their choices but rule #2 of my faith is to love one another as yourself. Love can change people in ways hate never could, and although many Christians tend to hate rather than love, the original teachings say to love on people no matter who they are. Hatred and opposing views are two different things. Hate the sin (bad thing), not the sinner (person).
New Testament on homosexuality
understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine
Timothy 1:9-10
See, discussions like this is why I start to re-think my religion, then decide to fuck it all and decide to go with don't me not-nice to everyone. Unless they try and rob you. Then put them so far into the ground they'll need an earthmover to find what little body remains. And say thanks to Jesus. Because that's what I was raised to do and I see no reason to stop doing so.
Religion doesn't govern me. It's more like my check-stop. It's another factor in the "would I let my parents/grandparents/best friend/whatever see me do this" sort of thing. Except the religion part works more on my emotional/logic part of me to keep me from being too irrationally hateful and stuff like that.
(this wasn't meant to sound snappy because I just realised it did, I was just adding to the conversation/trying to start one and I completely agree with you)
A yes or no answer please
Again yes or no answer please
(Then that by the way means that he's is not all powerful)
He's basically saying love me or I'll burn and torture you forever
And if he knows my next move then he created me knowing that I'll become an atheist and that I'll get tortured in hell beforehand

I ask because Athiest does not mean Antitheist. Those are two completely different mindsets.
