It'd be perfect. Would make the gene pool much smarter and for those whose bodies are able to withstand large amounts of let's say opiates or dissasociatives, whatever made them better would transfer to future generations. And of course those who are brilliant would face no death whatsoever from just Marijuana usage or safe psychedelics.
Tolerance to opiates isn't correlated to mental abilities. Also, who does drugs in general? Kids. You want to kill off, say, 70% of world's kids? Is that what you want?
As for 'facing no death from' perception-altering substances... ever heard of people who believed they could fly and tried it out? Quite a few faced their deaths that way, if I may say so. Don't be stupid. Natural selection is cruel and unpredictable. It might very well take you out first.
The reason drugs should stay illegal, at least in my mind, is simply because many of those who are addicted to drugs will go on to theve or mug to get money. I believe that laws should be there to stop stupid people from harming others, and that's what this law does.
If they're illegal people will still thieve and do whatever it takes to get the drugs.if they're legal or at least decrim crime rates go down in relation to drugs. Look at Portugal for an example
Guest #1 is correct. Portugal has decriminalized drugs (not legalized them). They no longer treat addicts as criminals, rather as people with a disease. Addicts get the help they need, get off the streets, and are provided with assistance with getting a job and housing. Drug addiction shouldn't be treated a crime, that's all there is to it.

There are laws in place to stop stupid people from harming others. Theft is illegal. So is mugging and burglary. Any kind of crime a person would commit to get money for drugs is already illegal. Those who commit crimes to get their next hit will do so whether or not drugs are illegal.
I believe that drugs should be decriminalized not so that more people can die, but so that more people can be saved. If the social stigma and legal ramifications of addiction were reduced, folks who struggle with addiction would be more willing and able to receive the treatment they need.
Thank you. The huge stigma is getting in the way of the fact that it's been proven scientifically that addiction is not weakness or being a bad person, it's a physical change in the brain. Let alone the fact it's been proven that decriminalization and healthcare is the best way to stop addiction, not just throwing everyone in jail or letting them die.
Actually, a version of this has happened to me even without having to legalise drugs first. (You can keep the 'so sorry'-ies for yourself, I'm saying this to proove a point not to collect sympathies.)

But we wouldn't let natural selection do its thing. We'd be merciful, which in many ways is good. But it makes no sense to start a journey that you know we wouldn't be able to finish. Think about the kindly woman in "Call of the Wild" who gave extra food to the sled dogs.
