I think he means that as a race, we are a cancer to this earth. It IS okay to generalize in this situation, I think. A lot of people don't do shitty things, but a lot more do.
I don't think you realise. There wasn't anyway to reverse the affects that it had already taken on the animals. They took a photograph to show how this is harming the animals and to hopefully prevent it from happening to more. So really.. it is a good idea.
