Swedish cops are the kind of people that wave to little children on the streets and can take 15, 20 minutes out of their patrol time to talk to a child who is frightened of them. I once saw a couple of officers showing a group of little kids what functions everything on their uniforms had.
Do you know how many crimes occur in cities like New York every 20 minutes?
I don't know about Sweden, but if someone from NYPD took 20 minutes to comfort kids who aren't in danger, I'd be pretty pissed off.
Sweden is a very safe country, there is always plenty of police around if something happens and the cities are so small that it's easy for the cops to get everywhere fast. They definitely have the time to talk to those children, since their job is to make sure everyone feels safe, and if that means talking to a little kid to ensure they aren't scared when they see a police officer, that's what they do.
I would say that we (being a Swede) have about the same amount of police officers per capita as the US has. Which means that whilst the cities are smaller the police force is also smaller. When it comes to crime Sweden isn't a perfect place, by no means, we have gang wars too. However, many other countries do not care of the "everyday" crimes and violence that occur in a smaller country, which is why you perhaps have not heard that much of it. However, I feel like I have to stress a couple of things. First, In Sweden guns are not legal, so with automatically less people carrying guns, less gun related violence will occur. Second, We do have a smaller income gap between rich and poor, thus crime of the violent kind (eco-crime therefore not included) might (stress the might part) be a bit lower. Third, we are taught from an early age that police officers are to be respected, and that they are here for our protection, which we are also SHOWN.
Don't mean to sound like an ass but who cares if they are cops. They are just civilians concerned looking out for an individual which is nice. I don't see why them being cops is a big deal since they are in the U.S and have no jurisdiction to arrest anyone even if they could. Also if they had guns on them they would be in big trouble. So of course they aren't going to shoot down a man cause legally they can't.
You say that, but I feel that if a few American cops were on vacation in Sweden and saw a fight, they wouldn't have their guns (probably, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did because they're Americans), but I do still believe they would beat the shit out of the guys to get them to stop instead of asking them if they are okay.
I highly doubt they would do that. They have no jurisdiction in Sweden and would get in big trouble if they beat up some guys in another country. I can't speak for cops in the U.S traveling abroad but neither can you . My point was the headline made it seem like the Swedish cops in the U.S could just pull out their guns and start firing at any time. Even though that could never be an option
the point is that while the swedes did detain the one dude but they made sure he was ok and not hurt where as a lot of cops from america would not have especially with all the deaths that have happened in past year and a half.
