I would have never done the trig substitution.
I would have probably tried to power my way through integrating sin^4 which, according to the internet calculator I just used because I'm lazy, is a stupid weird equation which I would have never thought it to be.
It's the only way to solve sine and cosine integration unless you change your coordinate system, but sin to the 4th will always be a bitch to integrate.
