Creationism should only be allowed to be taught in schools if it's a private school or if it's a non-mandatory class in public education. Another stipulation should be that rather than just teaching one religions beliefs on creation, it should discuss the beliefs of multiple other world religions. This could, in theory, help to reduce prejudices and misunderstanding about one and another's beliefs.
It should never be taught in any science classroom. The only time it should be mentioned is in Mythology classes and it should be made very, very clear that it is on the same level as the Indian, Islamic, and other myths.
Because it's more or less common sense in our modern age. The specifics of evolution are (probably) unknown to the layman but evolution as a principle is pretty intuitive.
evolution was taught when i went to school in Wisconsin, but once or twice religion was also brought up by a teacher, i have no way of knowing if this was actual curriculum or the teacher inputting their own religious views, but i recall varying degrees of understanding being presented of what "theory" meant in the context of evolution.
In France evolution isn't taught as a FACT. It is taught as a Theory with A LOT of evidence towards it, yet it is also stated that there is no absolute proof, and that it still is a theory, and if evidence against it should appear then it might be proven wrong.
And that is how I think it should be taught, since it illustrates the scientific method and helps keep an open mind while still learning about the most highly probable scientific explanation for shit.
A theory is a fact that science is too humble to call a fact. The Theory of Evolution is a fact as much as The Theory of Gravity is a fact or Germ Theory is a fact.
I see no problem with teaching religion as long as you teach evolution as well and do so in different classes. But I think not teaching religion because you think we world was created differently is wrong. Religion isn't only about how different people think the world has been created. A lot of a society's values are based on their religion. So I think to understand your own cultures values and other cultures values better you need to learn about the different religions. In my country both is taught - we have a religion class and evolution is taught within biology class.
And that is how I think it should be taught, since it illustrates the scientific method and helps keep an open mind while still learning about the most highly probable scientific explanation for shit.
That's probably for the best
