Could you imagine the beta testing for this?? I just imagine a couple at a nice restaurant. Maybe he knelt down and presented a ring to her. He says, "I've been promoted to assistant manager at the foldable car factory and I really love you and I want to start a family with you." She gets tears in her eyes and she tries to clear the lump in her throat as she nods 'yes.' As she manages to start, "Oh Rick, I lo-" Kate is struck in shocked silence as Rick's car had unfolded in his pocket and crushed his sternum. His dying thought was that of a life not lived to its fullest.
Technically not impossible: There is so much space between atoms that most everything that exists is 90% empty space.
The reason black holes are so terrifying is that they can squish any sort of matter into a minuscule size, because of it's intense gravity. That's why most the big bag is considered logical because all the matter of the universe could be condensed into the size of a golf ball (if I have my perimeters correct).
I am unsure if implementing this kind of technology would be impossible, as I am not very well versed in physics. Maybe the science side of FS can help me out? Could there be a way to compress matter?
90% empty space? I may correct you: it's about 99,9999% empty space, actually. But to my knowledge, no technology enables us to do this, and I doubt this will be possible someday, because of the mutual repulsion of elementary particles. Before the Big Bang, the situation was different (because the Big Bang produced equal quantities of matter and antimatter, and I mean HUGE quantities).
Also, the car would still have the same weight, so... bad idea.
Regarding the black holes, if you stand near a black hole, you will not be squished, but literally torn apart, because of the huge gradient of gravitational forces near the black hole (ie if you were "standing" too close to a black hole, your legs would be way more attracted towards it than your head, and rrrrrip).
Also most of the empty space is the space between the nucleus of an atom and it's electrons and if you were to squish that you'd be changing stuff like the energy level that an electron is in which would either require a lot of energy or give off a lot of energy and it would change how stable an object is.
Regardless, if it were to come apart, it would release a great deal of energy. In fact, the mere act of pushing these atoms together would create nuclear fusion, which, needless to say, would be bad.
I thought those pockets were actually decorative seams and didn't have a real pocket behind them.

Some are just decorative, some have what could loosely be called a pocket. I miss the days of jnco's and elephant bells where the pocket went down to my knees

and yes, those pockets were epic.
