Video games arent productive in the sense that you get a concrete object, but it is productive in the way sports are productive. I dont want to explain all the benefits of video games so just look them up. Buying a purse that you will use once is not productive.
Stop making this a gender thing, this is not a gender thing! You're turning into tumblr, making random things into gender issues just so you can bitch about them. I'm a girl and I absolutely loathe shopping, and do it as little as possible. And when I do, I just get what I need and go. I would much rather spend my day playing video games (and I do it every weekend) because I love them. Parallelly, a guy may not like video games and love shopping. Or a person, male or female, may enjoy both or neither. Just because I have a vagina doesn't mean I'll gasp at sales at H&M and scoff at Far Cry (long live Pagan Min). And just because someone has a penis doesn't mean he'll do the opposite.
I think everyone has a different sense of what is a priority and what is not. Someone may consider shopping to be a waste of time whIle the other sees video games as a waste of time...this can really be applied to any hobby or anything really. Someone might consider napping a waste of time, while others see it as being productive because though you're losing time, you might be more efficient with the time you have if you're more alert.
The thing is, you can easily play 5 hours of video games a day, but I can honestly say I don't know anyone who spends five hours a days shopping. In that sens, you can't really compare the two.
You realize it's not just women, right? And for over half the time, we go shopping for practical items. You must not know real women very well, because the whole "always shopping for shoes and purses" thing is almost entirely a myth.
Also, do people get mad when girls play video games? Because they most certainly do that.
