I've wanted to build an atomic clock for a while, but now I'm afraid I may not be white

What's involved in making an atomic clock?

It basically measures the frequency of vibrating atoms to keep time; they lose time at such a slow rate that it could be said that they'll never drop a second for all practical purposes.

I think it's something like it'll take between 150 million years and 200 million years to lose a full second, depend on which clock you're talking about.

The thing looks like a bomb.

In all fairness don't all the bombs you see on tv have a digital clock and a bunch of wires? And it's not like it's out of the question for a bomb to show up someplace like a school. So you can't blame someone for being in fear of that. You would never expect a teacher to ignore a possibility of people not being safe.

But you would expect them to call bomb control and evacuate the school. So everyone is safe

True.

Also, I understand that school officials might not know, but the police should've known. Instead of interrogating him for having a "Bomb"

They didn't call the bomb squad or evacuate the school because NO ONE ACTUALLY THOUGHT THE IDIOT MADE A BOMB. The school and the police thought he was attempting a hoax, a bomb scare, which is what they charged him with. The police stated this well before this story turned into "genius Muslim kid arrested by stupid racists." The kid didn't even actually make anything. He took a digital clock out of its case, wired it to a portable power supply, then stuck it into a pencil box.

The guest above could be right about Ahmad not having made the clock. Because this guy on imgur explained and compared how that could be true. It made sense actually. I'll try to find the link and post it here.

Yes, apparently there's some legal principle that it's ok to arrest a kid for having a clock if he didn't make it from scratch.
