I've never seen one in real life before but I've heard they're beautiful

I was in a car with someone and one hit the windshield right as it lit up, and the light literally drained out of it

I miss these little guys. As kids, we caught them in jars just to watch them for awhile indoors before letting them go. We moved South, and they don't exist here. We have Love Bugs, which are cool in their own way, I suppose. But to me, nothing says summer like fireflies and lemonade.

OKAY. SO AUSTRALIA HAS REDBACKS AND HUNTSMANS AND JELLYFISH AND SHIT AND THE REST IF THE WORLD GETS TORCH BEETLES. This is now going to annoy me until I see one.

I wish I had seen a lightning bug :(

These flourish out here, I live in southeast texas and they make the summer nights just beautiful

One of the things I love about living in the Appalachia.

I never realized that there are people who havent spent their summer nights catching lightning bugs. That was the greatest time of the year for me when i was growing up, and even now i get to watch the pulsing lights flying around. Its so sad that some of you havent.

Fireflies light up to attract potential mates. The Male trying to attract the female. However-- they say that every once in a while, a male will try to attract another male.

I have never seen one in California, yet I still know what they are and how they work

I've visited Vermont many times and there are a whole bunch up there, it's like stars on the ground.

I always have hundreds of them in my backyard since it is mostly woods. it's always so beautiful. it's my favorite thing about summer.
