its both, because it IS one of those things that if you do it the other way its not ok, but it sucks to have the free/discounted tap turned off, and the point of ladies nights was to get BOTH genders out to the bar, which is a bit different than your normal discriminatory policies, intended to keep out the people the discount wasn't for. but at the end of the day the notion that women get free stuff because of men is actually hurtful to the advancement of women rights, as nice as the free stuff is/was.
I mean there's no guys nights. But this is one of those things where I'm sure most guys just don't give a fuck. Besides. It gets girls to go to bars or clubs. More girls for them to hit on lmao. Sounds bad but it's true

I don't think women should be allowed to whine about ladies discounts not being available, no. However, it was something originally put into practice to keep the clubs from turning into a sausage fest because quite frankly, a good number of women weren't going to go to a club to put up with all the bros without some kind of incentive, and guys weren't showing up if there weren't enough women to make their odds decent. This was more of a "good business" practice when it came to the business of dark rooms full of alcohol and loud noise. Really though, if you're going to a club you should be paying just like everyone else. I'm not really sure how this ban actually plays out in my state, I'm old enough to enjoy sitting in the new, fancy taprooms around my neighborhood where I can get decent food and don't have to have shit music blasted at me.
I do find ladies' nights insulting, honestly. "Here, women, we'll offer you cheap drinks so you'll come to a place you've been previously avoiding, possibly either because you don't make as much as your male counterparts and can't avoid it or because you're afraid of being victimized. Maybe being drunk will help!"
Then exercise your right to not go. That's not infringed on by a business owner giving a better deal to one group that actually benefits both groups (women come for the inexpensive drinks, men come for the women).
I have always thought it is business strategy for bars and clubs to attrack more girls which attracks more guys....so not really discrimination...but i see what they did there...
This is stupid. Businesses should be able to offer preferential treatment if they choose. Ladies nights do not hurt men, men only clubs do not hurt women. This is just silly.
It doesn't matter which way you slice it, if you are giving preferential treatment to one group based on possessing those identifying characteristics of that group:
It is discrimination. Full stop.
Who the hell cares? Only children look at someone receiving preferential treatment and demand the same. That's why younger kids sometimes get presents on their older siblings birthdays.
