Well...it helps to have alcohol in order to have alcoholism...

Alcohol doesn't cause alcoholism. Addictive personalities do. Majority of people can drink while having fun and not need a drink in order to have fun.

I don't think that's what they're saying. Alcohol isn't what causes alcoholism but without it, addictive personalities would just be addicts, right?

What I'm trying to say is, Don't blame the substance, blame the user. An addict is an addict regardless of their vice. So blaming alcohol or marijuana or caffeine for peoples problems is not the solution. The solution lies with the individual.
Exactly! So many people say that they drink "in order to have fun", but honestly, if you need to poison your brain in order to have a good time, you're just probably not a fun person to be around. My brain is so fucked up that the limits of social correctness are moved way up, so I don't even need alcohol.
You're all missing the point. I can and do have a lot of fun without drinking at all but a few drinks here or there help sometimes especially after a stressful week or whatever. Like it says in the image, you don't neec running shoes to run but sometimes it helps. We aren't talking about full blown alcoholism to where the person can't function. Just a few drinks to get buzzed once in a while.
... its not that the alcohol is needed to have fun, its that things are vastly more entertaining when your brain has been softened a bit. sort of like how salt can bring out flavours.
you people have it all backwards, you do not drink in order to have a good time, you drink to enhance the good time, and to enhance the relaxation. if you cannot have fun WITHOUT alcohol something is wrong. drinking just makes the jokes a little funnier and the food a little tastier and the environment a bit more welcoming.
