I remember when I was young, I would sit in the back seat ( because law ), and then whenever my dd would try to click the ashes outside the window they would always blow back and land on my hair and clothes, making me smell like smoke. Sometimes the ashes would even get in my eyes. Sometimes they still do, even now that I'm older and am sitting in the passenger seat.
Not really... if they're smoking with someone (especially kids),then they're sacrificing the health of those people in order to feed their nasty habit..
Yeah but at the same time it still seems a bit much to fine everyone for every little thing. It's like in New York, certain drink sizes are banned from being sold. It's just taking alway more and more freedom, when does it end?
It's kind of a tricky situation, I mean like it seems like the government shouldn't be fining people for every little thing, but how else do you get it to stop?

You don't because the only person you can control is you. You can encourage and fine all you want but at the end, the choice is still theirs.
the reason we fine people for doing shit around kids is because you can leave their presence with ease. laws banning and punishing and imprisoning pregnant women are a slippery damn slope with a lot of terrifying consequences on rights. as well there are many different medical opinions on impact to a fetus of different substances and at what quantity there is a danger, as well as harm ratio when it comes to a pregnant women dealing with addition, withdraws, even stress has a negative impact on a fetus so you have to weigh the consequences even for intentional pregnancies to decide which of two roads is the lesser evil. plus you can be pretty damn pregnant without knowing, are you going to look for proof they knew they were pregnant? or do you get free reign to punish people for anything you have proof they did for the 9ish months before it came out? certain substances can also make the sperm jacked up leading to child with issues, or maybe just less than they had the potential to (cont
As a non-smoker and hater of cigarette smoke, I ESPECIALLY hate smokers I have to drive behind on city streets as the smoke smell comes right at you if your window is down. Especially for those of us whom our AC is broken. DX
The problem I have with this is that society'll start devolving into what we see in the "stop a douchbag" russian videos, in particular the ones they have of asking people to not drink and smoke in public (the only time they're validated is under "no smoking" signs which doesn't seem to be very often). They're being the douchbags. It's incredibly rude to go up to someone and slap a cigarette out of their hand or squirt it with a squirty-bottle or knock a bottle out of their hand. So rude in fact, that it could be considered assault and battery.
I personally believe cigarettes and all tobacco products should be banned entirely, since we know how harmful they are. But of course, it makes too much momey so that'll never happy.
i understand that banning won't stop anything, but it's just shocking that it's not been banned already. like how drugs are banned but they're still used. obviously you can't stop criminals from being criminals, but if drugs were legalized, it would be shocking, since we know the harm they cause. it's strange to me that they're not banned already is all.
There is a movie by the name of demolition man that takes place in a future were everything unhealthy is banned and everything people need is only allowed to be used in the exact health amount. it ended quite badly as the government took the fact that the people allowed that and ran with it controlling every part of peoples lives.
I totally agree with deviledapple. Personally am morally opposed to abortion and believe that mothers should be careful especially while pregnant, but if we start fining women for what they do to there bodies it is definitely only a small step away from fining them for what they eat, how much they eat, do they exersize.
We can educate, but we should not regulate a woman's body.
There's a huge difference between telling a woman she shouldn't smoke while pregnant while we already have second hand smoking laws in place and telling a woman what she can eat and how much. Her smoking causes difficulties and problems for the child she wants to have, and if doctors make her aware of this she is knowingly causing harm to her child.
My mom was smoking when she was pregnant with my little brother, her doctor was so disgusted by this that she said the baby was going to be really small and have a bunch of problems because of her smoking without even looking at the foetus. My little brother ended up being slightly bigger than average and no problems were found. It is not good that people smoke during pregnancy, but media has exaggerated the danger of this so much that it is just starting to annoy me.
^ lol. but to be fair weed smoking doesn't have most the toxins of cigg smoking, its not really the smoke itself that's bad for you. but then i belong to the "let people do what they want to their own bodies" line of thought.

Are you going to fine the women who are planning on aborting?
I think there really isn't because that means that whether or not we consider the child to be alive depends entirely on another person's intent for that person. What if she changes her mind? I've seen some extreme people even arguing for the right to kill a child after it is born (even after full term) if the mother intended on aborting the baby.
If you're intending on having the child then you shouldn't be doing anything that's been proven to harm that child and the development. Then she is harming herself AND the child she wants since smoking even at the beginning of pregnancy can harm later development. But getting an abortion is termination of the pregnancy before it becomes anything more than a small bunch of cells.
no one can be perfect for 9 months. everything can harm the fetus and development. you ever try googling the things you are not supposed to do while pregnant? they cannot even agree on the line between exercise being good and exercise being bad. i mean sure, you smoke like a chimney, you really are being shitty, but should the gov't be involved? you smoke once in awhile to control the habit, leave people alone.
the nicotine is not the only thing people are addicted to. i think its great that these anti smoking people have gotten such headway into the younger generations, but i really hate the way it seems to have made them *hate* the smokers. habits are funny things even without an addictive substance, its hard to change them around and then you toss in the fluctuating hormones of a pregnancy...

Yeah it's hard enough to beat addiction without that.
killing a baby 1 second after it comes out is super different than 1 second before it comes out. Duh. It's like you're retarded or something. Come on. You can't see the obvious logic here?
