*serious question*
So how'd you start then? Parents smoked so you got used to it? Stress? I've read stories about soldiers who spontaneously smoked just to have something sharp and tangible to anchor them to reality.
My parents didn't smoke no but most of my family did. I was just a teen trying to fit in and on top of that being 14 when shit happens you think it's the end of the world. My parents divorced, a friend got killed, and then little things built up and my friends were doing it so I thought why not.
My dad was a non-smoker before he joined the military. He smoked to give himself something to do and because everybody else did. Sadly died from throat cancer when I was 18.
Yeah, but everyone in this comment section is acting like smokers are horrible, nasty people committing some unforgivable sin, who will spend the rest of their lives in Hell. Yes, smoking is disgusting but you're not a bad person for doing it. No matter how you got started, it's an addiction and no matter how much you want to quit, it's incredibly difficult. Most people here and on that other post are acting like you can just stop with a snap of your fingers. There are so many factors that contribute to why someone smokes.
.
That's not to say I think it's alright to smoke around children and the like, or that the fact that it's hard is an excuse not to even try, of course. Smoking is gross and dangerous. Just try to look at it from every point of view.
I don't think people who smoke are bad people.
I don't know your situation, your family, or anything really, but I still think that if a smoker has a child with asthma (or something similar), to whom smoke is detrimental to their health, that parent has the responsibility to do everything in their power to quit smoking, or at the very least smoke away from the house and car.
My science teacher says there is kid who comes to school every day smelling of smoke. She can't tell us who it is, but they always cough and she says it is child abuse.
I don't smoke or drink, and half the time want to throat punch those that do especially when they are 8.5 months pregnant and complaining about it! And there is always that one person in line at the store that smells like a burnt tire because all they do is smoke, I'd rather reek of cow crap any day at least I can wash that smell off!
I know, and then you get these people who insist on standing right outside the doors at stores to smoke, and throw the butts on the ground for somebody else to have to clean up.
I hate smokers tbh. I don't live with my parents, but they smoke, and I remember living in that house with them. The smoke is suffocating. The other day, I went with my grandmother to pick them up to cut our lawn/clean out the shed, and when they got in the car, it was so hard to breathe. I can't even imagine being anywhere where they're /actually/ smoking.
This is one of those posts where I try so hard to scroll past because I want to point out every single idiotic thing, but I know my opinion will be hated upon the internet.

but in their defense it is very very hard to quit smoking. best of luck!!
