It is "free". That actually just means you pay it in taxes, but according to how they're defining it here, yes public school is free in the states all the way through high school.
Realistically, almost everything that is free, is really just "free"... what I mean is, even though something is free, you always pay it somehow.. In Sweden all education is free, but as we pay taxes that is then invested within our school systems, education cost.
(The only people that enjoy free education in Sweden are students from other EU countries as they dont pay tuition nor taxes.)
Yes @shampoo many countries do have that, and people from other nationalities often say that we Swedes are lucky that Uni is free for example. I am not complaining at all, I like the system here... although I bet that most people dont understand how much we Swedes pay in taxes.. or at least parts of Sweden, as the tax % is different depending on how much you earn..
don't hogwarts students have to buy their own books and such? and it's been a while since i've read/seen the potters but if i recall there are a few hints at a tuition. could a super fan clear this up please
Yeah but in book 6 when Dumbledore shows Harry him telling Tome Riddle that hes a wizard pensive Dumbledore tells pensive Riddle that there is money provided to students that can't pay for books
It's not for students that can't pay for books; otherwise the Weasley's would've gotten some. It's intended for muggles who have no way to get Wizarding money.
Hogwarts isn't free. In the first book Vernon was all like "How is that boy gonna pay for that school." And Hagrid was all like "Harry's Parents got him covered."
You need certain qualifications to get into this free school. Just like all the places that have free college...most of the people who imagine that they'd get in and get free tuition actually wouldn't qualify.
School is not free here, no matter the kind of school
