The problem is this generation doesn't, "gather around" and do these things. Were actually becoming less social, because instead of having to go out and talk to one another, we can just text. Don't get me wrong these technologies can be used for great things but for the most part it hasn't.
I hardly talk to people in real life since no one really has anything in common with me, but I'm really social with online friends, so I'm actually more social than I would be without the internet.
In the 60s parents said the sane thing about phones. Before that, it was books. No one ever thinks new technologies are good for the nes generations, which i would have though you might get being dailydoseofmusic, as for generations parents have said the same about newer music.
Music is always changing and so does technology. Not necessarily is that a good thing always. Real life social interactions are a lot more complex than texting online. In real life social interactions you need to be understating and have good recognition tools. Also the fact is real life social interactions have a way bigger chance of leading to an active action than messaging. (Which for me is usually about a half hour to an hour of just laying back and texting)
And to pebble social interactions aren't about going to random strangers and talking to them. (Although it can be for certain people) for most its just about finding people with common interests and goals that you can talk to, and yes back in the 90's a persons average social circle was bigger than the average persons social circle of today.
I can find people with common intrests way faster with the internet thanks to technology. I have a social circle that spans the globe. Every previous generation shits on the current one. And dont say well thats just cause this one really is shit. Well thats what your grandparents thought about your parents generation. And your great grandparents thought about your grandparents. People will always shit on the younger generation for being vain or stupid or having ridiculous pointless technology. Tv, computers, radio, and even electricy itself, when first invented were shit on by the older generation and called fads and something that would never catch on and something that made "todays youth" lazy.
There are rediculous fad from previous generations. Our ancestors generations were anything but perfect and so is ours. Like I said before talking online through a phone or computer doesn't bring about the same social attributes that a real life conversation has. Also once again, studies have proven that the average persons social circle has gone down. To end off, I'm not saying our generation isn't great, the technology and ways to counicate with more people are huge. But its far from perfect and there are many downsides.
Selfies aren't all that new, they are just more easily created due to cameras. Ever been to a museum? Most of the higher class citizens, they were the ones who could afford it, had murals of themselves.
Me and my family take selfies all the time because it's fun to cram together and take one. If you enjoy it, do it, as long as no one is getting hurt.
This generation is driven by ego-maniacs like none other. I hope you all abolish binary gender, then in a confused orgy of grass-is-greener surgery sterilize each other. Gen Y can re populate the earth, this time with less fucktards.
Oh yeah we were so much more social in the past. Thanks to technology and my phone. I friends all over the world that i can talk to in real time. Something the old generation couldn't even dream of.
