The oxford comma is unnecessary. It's used to "help" state the obvious that is common sense. For example: "I like cheese, bread and orange juice for breakfast." Now it is only common sense that almost absolutely NOBODY puts orange juice on bread. But people who use the oxford comma see this statement and immediatly forget about common sense.
it just makes the writing flow better, in my opinion. there are, however, rare occasions when such a mistake is made without the Oxford comma. I can't think of one immediately, but it does happen
I won't go in to my history with the Oxford comma, but it's bullshit and I'll tell you why.
.
The most frequent claimed reason for its use is "sentence clarity," but it's also known to cause it's own confusion.
How about this? Instead of using the comma, Oxford or otherwise, as a grammatical crutch, how about you get better at composing your sentence structure?
.
The majority of argumentative examples for its use I've seen are strawmen. They are cherry picked poorly written sentences.
Strawman arguments won't win me over. It instead signals to me that you believe your own position to be weak.
