Too bad the system is only the way it is because we allow it to be this way. Trump will force the republican parties hand when it comes time to nominate a candidate. Either the party falls into the popular/majority and goes with trump as the nominee or they go off of party interest and put someone else from the race as the nominee, which either way is a lose lose situation for the party.
Well the statistics are hella sqewed because actually the majority of the country has a moderate political view. So the moderates are so frustrated with both ends of the spectrum that they dont vote leaving all the votes are from the opposite sides of the spectrum of the craziness. A two party system is stupid...STUPID
Funny thing is is that the US government wasn't meant to be a party system at all. Hell the federalists warned against factions during the early stages of this country because it only causes trouble. The idea that two large entities of completely different political beliefs represent the country wholely is ridiculous and as you said is pissing middle ground Americans off, I myself like to think I am one, and will lead to a tear in how the government is run the coming years.
I took a political test not too long ago, I'll have to find the link, where it separated the belief system into 4 segments and positioned you based on your answers to questions into the 4 sections.
I just took one with regards to the current candidates and i got 77% donald trump 76% for both bernie and Hillary which is disappointing considering my favorite candidate is Marco Rubio
Some of those tests are scewed a certain way so who knows but to be perfectly honest Trump is not the only candidate fucking with the two party system and shaking it at its core. Sanders is doing much the same but on the democratic side. I hope to god after this or even during this election that people open their eyes to how fucked up the American political system has become under this two party system.
I also hate the electoral college i want to live in a country where my vote ACTUALLY matters. Like say in 10 years my work makes me move to California and i live in San Francisco. California is a blue state, for those of you who dont know, means that now matter the exact numbers of the popular vote the state goes blue/democrat. So my vote counts for nothing basically on the national level.
The problem that seems to arise with the popular vote is that people, especially people on the left side of politics, are fearful that that'll give all the power to white Christians and that would disproportionately outweigh the minority vote which in reality is what tends to win elections anymore.
The problem is that we view these people as minorities or majorities. Why not just people. Religion is different though and aside from same sex marriage and abortion debates (i really dont want to get into that). Christian values aren't bad at all and most of the world is built off of them
We do not have a two party system. Elections are open to any and all parties, or no party independents. Millions of Americans vote for a fringe party or write in candidate every election. Bernie Sanders served in the House of Representatives as an Independant, and is only running as a Democrat now because too few people know they can vote third party. It's just that so many Americans THINK there are only two parties from which to choose that no other candidates really have a chance.
True, but how would you convince the illiterate masses otherwise? How would you transition to something other than the current "system"? Given the low information voters, the only viable option I can see is for a Trump or a Sanders to get elected and then switch party affiliation after getting elected. We have to find a way to educate the proletariat and break the stranglehold the two major parties have on our freedoms. We need to figure something out; this shit isn't working.
I agree absolutely. The electoral college is a holdover from a time when most people couldn't travel to cast their votes, so a select few were picked to represent "the will of the people". With today's communication technology we all know how the masses voted practically before they do. We do not need electors to recast the votes we already know about (and possibily pull some bullshit on us in the process).
If there is a secret plan, then its to make Ted Cruz look like an actual human being who is not a complete madman. Btw. the meme looks like Jaden Smith.
Trust me.
>not winning
Kek.
Looks like a landslide to me.
