So women trying to gain leverage in the world are weak? What about those in Saudi or N. Korea? Are they weak too for trying to get out of the grip of men?
Those people cannot simply because they are women.
Americans have it WAY better than people in other foreign countries, but those people don't deserve to be called weak for fighting.
PREACH. As a woman from the US, I have never had issues with inequality simply because I am a female. That's probably because I grew up without someone telling me I was treated unfairly. I grew up with the mindset that I was equal to men, and consequently, my gender hasn't stopped me from doing anything.
I envy your clear privilege. I was taught from a very young age that it was perfectly fair to expect me to keep quiet even when I was clearly right, because a girl shouldn't "pretend" to be smarter than boys.
I'm obviously a girl so you think I haven't heard the whole girls are below boys bullshit? It's how you choose to deal with it. Don't be a victim, be the victor.
As a woman in a developing country. I can say that this maybe true if first world countries, but in ones that are not first world, simply being safe is a struggle, leaving your house alone is difficult.. for most people in my country even equal education Is a problem.
Sooooo.... a person of colour in a racist society isn't supposed to blame the racists? They should blame...themselves for not being strong enough to be able to change the colour of their skin/overcome every fucking idiotic raccism-motiated obstacle/... ?
Am i getting this right?
Pretty sure you didn't read that clear enough. If a person of color lives in a racist society, let's say whites, then the POC should blame the racists, not all whites.
Ohhhh, so this is the problem? Not ALL men? Again? Isn't this getting old by now? Huh?
If you're being opressed by a group of people, I think it's perfectly reasonable to blame them for the troubles their opressive behaviour caused you. Yes, ALL of them. Obviously you can blame specific individuals as well if they personally wronged you but I believe we're talking in general here, about groups of people.
I'll point out just one more thing and then I'm done chewing this fat because frankly, it's getting rancid: as a woman in a country where women get interrogated if they intend to marry/have kids/etc at job interviews, I feel fucking opressed by men. Yes, all of them. How can 'strenght' fight this? Should I hit the gym and knock out my job interviewer if he starts asking inappropriate things? Should I disguise as a man, complete with a prosthetic penis and a pair of balls?
Look, I'm fucking tired of this debate. Whatever, mate. Whatever.
It's like you want to blame all of germany, and their grandchildren for what the Nazi's did. If you want to have strength, ignore it. It's not there to oppress you, it's for them to know if you are working to support others in addition to yourself. If you're feeling oppressed from this in addition to other things, I really wonder how the world has turned,
no, actually it's like you want to blame all of the nazis for what the nazis did.
jesus, don't make me go there and ask of what particualr use would, in your opinion, personal strenght be to a jewish person in a concentration camp during nazi regime.
Even then, I can't blame all the Nazis. You know why? The soldiers on the field didn't know about the concentration camps. They answered their country's call to war just like everyone else.
I don't think this quote is referring to that. Common sense tells us that rape is not the victims fault. This quote doesn't apply to that, more so "My gender is preventing me from getting me where I want to be in life."
I think she should have phrased this differently, because there are definitely still countries in the world where this is actually the case. Nevermind the whole ''victim blaming'' idea which comes into the picture.
Victimization is an industry that many many profit from. Racism, sexism, class warfare, etc. If you can be convinced you are a victim of something, someone else is going to profit.
Americans have it WAY better than people in other foreign countries, but those people don't deserve to be called weak for fighting.
