My dorm is like that. We can't enter through emergency exits, we have to go through the front door and the only way we can leave the building if it's not an emergency is through the front. We have to use our student IDs to swipe in so they know who is in the building at all times. Plus we have these little gray fobs that we swipe over this box that is specifically set for our dorm hall and it unlocks and opens the door for us. So not just anyone can get in.
I really don't know if other universities does this. I was kind of surprised when I first got here. But I understand why they do it. Other students complain about it, but it's for security purposes.
@FSuser you're right that bribes amd influence are a thing, but it's not the universal rule. It's more of a corruption thing, and even though it sadly is like that at a lot of schools, it shouldn't be.
@guest then it is only a good thing that the school invests the money from the fees into security, isn't it?
Its not just about (open) bribes, but rich people can afford expensive lawyers. Its not in front of your law professor where you find out what you can and can't do, its in court.
I wonder if he's maybe the only one that pays to attend that school? If that's the case, being a self centered little ass-hat is totally understandable (not really)
you have to walk slightly further than you'd like!
How tragic!
