It looks more like wings suddenly popped out of its back, it face-planted from the new weight, then flew away.

A small animal maybe a bunny was out in the snow than a bird maybe an owl swooped down and took it away to eat. That or an animal sprouted wings and flew away. I prefer the second so there is a bunny somewhere with wings. lol
