can't tell if stupid... or just being sarcastic.
Because if you weren't sarcastic and didn't know bill Clinton was the first African american president, then you are clearly stupid.
I'm 99% sure that to be technically considered "African American" you need to be of slave descent. But that's all a bit pendantic and not really worth the argument.
The requirement to be considered an African American has nothing to do with whether or not you're of slavery descent. "Technically" you have to be of African descent.
Obviously it's AFRICAN American, not slave American. He doesn't have to be of slave descent to be African American, just like you don't have to be of a slave owner decent to be white.

The term may also be used to include only those individuals who are descended from enslaved Africans
...
Most African Americans are of West and Central African descent and are descendants of enslaved blacks within the boundaries of the present United States.

This is what I was taught but evidently the proper meaning IS any american with african roots.
I like how "american" isn't spellchecked but "african" is (it wants the caps).
Dude, less than 12% of the black population back then were slaves. 1.5% of Americans were eligible to own slaves, and less than that were actual slave owners.

Like I said before, just stupid.

No joke. He really was called our first black president.
