And actually he was only in cold water for a few seconds. He was so drunk that he thought every one was going for a swim and he dived off the boat into the cold water. He was almost instantly dragged onto a boat the people on the boat was quoted to say he was just doing a dog paddle in circles and once on board he wanted back in to swim some more. They had to almost tie him up.
This is missing parts, the reason that he said he was working and got angry was because he had a lot of telegrams to send to NY for the passengers (that was his job) and couldn't send anything while receiving others (like the warnings). He got annoyed because he wanted to finish his job and kept getting interrupted, he probably disregarded the warnings because he was pissed.
Also, after the Titanic guy snapped at him, the radio operator on the Californian went bed and thereby missed the distress call from the Titanic. However, the Titanic sent up flares which were seen but the ship was locked in place because of ice, so ultimately they couldn't help anyway.
11 is not true at all.. there was enlightened for everyone initially and then j brice is may didn't want all the boats clogging up his deckspace so he removed around half leaving enough space for around 1100
5)The 4th stack was not only for decoration but was used for ventilation and as a chimney. This role could however be fulfilled by one of the other 3 making it unnecessary to add a fourth.
12)they could have had that extra warning if they had had access to the ship's binoculars. They were locked away in a box on the bridge and the key was left in the pocket of the previous watchman from the voyage to Southampton from the shipyard.
13)The water tight bulkhead were supposed to be built up through the entire ship and be fully automatic but were cut down due to budget cuts. If these systems were put in place, the ship could have survived the collision and made it to NY with only a bit of listing.
14)In attempting (and Failing) a turn, they skimmed the side of the iceberg and opened a huge gash in the side of the ship, flooding multiple compartments. However, had they rammed the iceberg head on, they could have flooded only the front 2 compartments and survived. Sorry for long comment.
