Life is far too complicated for a "god" to exist. Also, there are too many things that were previously made by "god" that have been proven as fact, not to mention the inconsistency of "god" around the world. Additionally, who is there to say that a "god" even exists? The "proof" that any one has is refutable at the least.
I believe there WAS a higher force at one point, but now? no. There is too much pain in this world for a god to exist. Maybe thousands of years ago, something big, and sentient created life, started the big bang, and started off evolution, however, now days, whatever form of 'sentient' life there one was, doesn't seem to exist. Unless the said sentient life has stopped caring, in which case, it doesn't matter.
And on a personal matter, I love Jesus. I think what he stood for, and he things he said, and did were amazing for his time. Him being the son of God? Farfetched, in my opinion, but he still did some pretty great things.
I'm not atheist but I don't think god is anything any one religion is right about. Nor do I believe it is all powerful. I think something created this universe. Do I believe it was a sentient being? No idea. No one knows.
I believe that God is real because that's what the Bible says. And why is the Bible reliable, you might ask? I know that the Bible is true because throughout the centuries, facts that have been written in the Bible have been proven. For instance, in the Bible, it states that the Earth is a sphere. Now, back two thousand years ago when this was written, scientists at the time said the Earth was flat. We now know that the whole time, the Bible was correct. There are countless other examples of the Bible proving science wrong throughout history.
Also, I realize that some people think that there cannot be a God, because there is too much pain in the world. Pain, along with the challenges of life, are meant for us to learn and grow. God wants us to see that without him, there is only despair and grief. I mean, really, when you look at the world around us, with its wars and politics and natural disasters, even I have to admit that it sucks. But in the end, there is something much better :)
Guest im not atheist but im more of an agnostic-ish catholic. What you said about the bible saying the earth is round might be true (i don't remember the bible enough to cite something that says your wrong so i have no idea tbh) but that argument of the bible being proved right doesn't really make a lot of sense when you think about the fact that throughout history the church has literally tortured and killed people for being right about science when it goes against the bible.
Pfffttt.
Hinduism States this stuff before bible does. And i still don't believe in that.

The persecuting Church was the Catholic church. They were power hungry hypocrites who called themselves servants of God. Those were the Dark Ages. However the Dark Ages ended with the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation when people began to realize how corrupt the Church was. The Bible was then translated into the tongue of the common people and they were able to learn for themselves about God and salvation. Before the Bible was translated, commoners were taught that paying tithes would get them to Heaven. The Protestant Reformation brought forth truth to the people: salvation was made available to all sinners because of what Jesus did. Choosing to follow God's commandments and to live a righteous life in God's eyes is what people do for God is grant them eternal life in Heaven.
But before the reform, there was the spanish inquisition, who did a lot of really nasty things to anyone, and everyone, because they had the pope's support. If you went against them, it was like "going against God"

Who is sovereign over life and death? God is. Not the pope, monks, or whoever. The Church before the Reformation was corrupted and that's exactly why the reformation had to happen so that more people could read the Bible for themselves and place God and Scripture as the total authority and not the king or pope.
