The issue isn't the cake itself, it's that by baking the cake, it feels like they're saying that they endorse the marriage. Which, of course, raises some problems.
But the point is, according to the teachings of Jesus, who they claim to follow, the law he gave above all others was to love one another, regardless of their sin and to nit judge because everyone has sinned and is imperfect.
They aren't obeying his law.
Still, I'm sure they are baking cakes for couples who are having sex before marriage and that's basically adultery. It's not like they are performing an abortion. There is nothing sinful about mixing flour and sugar and eggs.
@celticrose This is true. However, it's a bit more complicated than that. There are three facets of marriage: that it is freely and fully chosen, that it is a lifelong commitment, and that the couple is open to children. It's the last part where it gets tricky. Openness to children does not mean you are willing to adopt. It means that you will do nothing to prevent your having a child, and that the couple has the physical ability to have sex. Of course, this doesn't only stop homosexuals from getting married. If a man went to war and got his lower half blown off, losing his genitalia, then he cannot get married. I know, stupid right? There are some exceptions, but there are no clear defining rules for when they come into play.
I would also like to note that I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS RULE. It is silly and outdated, but it is what the catechism says, and it is what people believe.
It's fine if gay people get married, I don't agree with it but it's not my place to stop them. However I won't bake a cake for their wedding because I don't support that. Jesus ate with thieves and whores so he could tell them that they need to repent and that God loves them and they are forgiven. He wanted them to turn their lives around. He didn't support adulterey or theft
Honestly if people treated sexuality like an opinion (like, I like pizza and you don't, were still friends, who cares), rather than a fucking WAY OF LIFE, things would be better. I don't base my life around liking cookies, you shouldn't base your life around liking dick. If shit was like that, there'd be no issue.
I mean i don't base my life on the fact that I'm straight, I just am straight. If I were gay, nobody would be able to tell unless I was with my boyfriend, I wouldn't base my entire personality and being on the fact that I liked dick. Sexuality isn't an opinion, but it's kinda similar. You shouldn't make your sexuality your life.
I'm just saying when you're in line at the pearly gates, if you believe in heaven, who is god going to really let in? The person who loved and accepted everyone gay, straight, different religion, etc or the person who loved only who they chose to love and ostracized an entire group of people?
