She could just be born blind and therefore never used a blindfold... I always look at the blindfolded justice as "about to be shot by a firing squad"... which is pretty much on point.
The thing is, people don't really have an equal chance now. The fact is, barriers such as age, religion, class, race, biological gender, sexual orientation, gender identification, and disabilities (in no particular order and just to name a few) can present a significant obstacle to many, and pretending that's not so won't change or solve anything. Also, targeting a particular political ideology only serves to deter cooperation and compromise, something sorely needed nowadays. TLDR don't ignore actual inequalities and don't target anyone.
The world is never going to be equal, it is just how it is. Nothing will ever be perfect, inequality exists and it sucks and it should change, but many people take it as an excuses to not work to get out of there situation and live off of welfare instead of trying to fix it. They contribute to the problem instead of fixing it. If you work hard you can get of almost any situation.
Nothing will ever be perfect, inequality exists and it sucks, but some people use that as an excuse to not bother trying to change things for the better at all because, well golly, that'd be haaaaaard and these reality shows aren't going to watch themselves...
Yes because those born with crippling disabilities or those plagued by disorders in they're mind are equal. No they just get to pay for medical care with the money they can't
Make from the job they can't get
When will people realize that everybody in a society benefits from equality and most of all equity! It makes people smarter and richer.
We all depends on each other so much. If you really were independent, living on your own you wouldn't know comfort.
And right, equality is about giving an equal chance to everyone but we need equity. When you live in a bad neighborhood without money, in a violent environment where you can't really study there's no equality compare to someone else living in a wealthy environment, who has access to culture, a good education.
It's like two runners starting a race at the same time but on different lines: one 2 km behind the departure and the other 5 km in front.
Your example is a perfect description of discrimination. Nothing else. Equality is giving everyone a fair chance. Everyone has one. If you can't get out of the ghetto it's no one's fault but your own, most likely. Work hard at everything and don't do stupid illegal stuff. It's simple from there. If nothing else, join the military. Easy money and good college benefits. You need to put the effort into life to strive. Not expect a hand out.
One can not say everyone has a fair chance.
If you are born into a family poor as a polish churchrat, you dont have a fair chance to a good school and medical benefits as one born into a filthy Rich family.
That Rich family will always have more benefits and better chances.
The kids get own apartments and houses early. They can pay for college and dont need to work three Jobs to pay the tutition..
The Rich will get more money, riches and Power and contacts for every generation, while IT takes a whole lot of luck and work for the poor one to achieve the same amount.
The rich are only rich because soemone workd hard enough to support their family's future.
It's not the rich's fault that someone's poor, but it is, in the first and second worlds, very possible to at least earn enough to support themselves.
Yep. Because someone worked hard.
Many others got thing floating for them.
Yes they probably worked hard to. But its alot easyer to work hard when you dont have to think about getting food, paying Bills. If you dont worry about money, you can focus on other things.
That's not true, both of those are kinds of equality. Either one can be worked towards.
Equality of outcome is arguably a better goal, but equality of opportunity is much more realistic.
Make from the job they can't get

Helping the needy is well and good, but not at the cost of my family's comfort or independence.
