Im not Australian but i live in Australia (Adelaide) and those pink birds are actually pretty common. I haven't had any weird experiences with them yet because we never open the windows.
We have huge huntsman spiders that come into the house and just sit on the ceiling for a few days before disappearing. Often they we just leave them there and sometimes give them names. They are scary as shit but they eat flies and mosquitoes while leaving them alone. Some people give them names.
Morning routine: "Morning people, oh look, Frank's back"
Mostly, they will much rather tun than bite, but will if corned. The bit has no dangerous poison but it hurts like hell. While they are not dangerous, if you don't know that, they are scary as hell - mainly because of the size.
What about those bloody cockatoos who come just to empty the bins (public bins or wheelie bins that are out for the rubbish to be collected) and throw the rubbish everywhere. And they sit in trees and break off twigs and berries just to throw it on the ground. Then they stare at you like they know it's pissing you off. They do it for shits and giggles. Bastards.
I've had some cockatoos literally rip pine-cones out of trees and throw them down at me. They chased me all up the street bombing me with these, flying above me and ahead of me to try and cut me off while the kookaburras laughed at me. Little shits.
Also after a shooting in Australia that left so many people dead or injured there was a banging of guns and since then there hasn't been any major incidents
The Vegemite actually DOES help. It has large amounts of Vitamin B in it which repels mosquitoes. Someone who eats a slice of Vegemite toast every morning will practically never be bitten by one of the bloodsucking assholes.

It says "9%" but considering the amount of them, that's a lot.
