Green has a lot of great insighta and smart quotes, but this isn't one of them.
It should go without saying that when people talk about the good things that have happened in the past, they aren't directly referring to the bad things. Duh.
How about when a family could live well on one income? When kids played outside rather than playing with a Playground App? When obese was the rare person who was 20 pounds overweight? When people didn't wear flip flops to weddings? When workers had pensions? When Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Thin Lizzy, The Eagles, Kansas, Boston, or Fleetwood Mac was coming out with a new album? When something on your car could be fixed for $30 by a friend or a mechanic or yourself rather than by a technician for $600, and your car wasn't practically disabled because the security system or power windows had something wrong with their onboard computer?
The Golden Age of TV was when it was in black and white. That doesn't mean that color or digital is worse, or that we have to crap on the era back then because it had drawbacks. Why can't people be wistful about having a good life and nice home with one income in the family and relative safety from gun violence (despite fewer and less restitrictive gun laws)? Why can't we hope to return the stuff that was good or even great AND keep the progress that's been made in the areas that were less than great?
It should go without saying that when people talk about the good things that have happened in the past, they aren't directly referring to the bad things. Duh.
Liberals actually fucking believe this. It's astonishing.
