I'm calling it on the last 1 there's no correlation in her action and your reaction but positive reinforcement works , I know 4 a fact if you throw something at a cat because it climbs on the table, it will quit getting on the table,
It not a punishment in their heads, it's just cause and effect. They eventually realize that if they jump on the table something will get thrown at them, so they don't do it anymore.
With the meowing thing: they haven't developed meowing for dealing with humans. Meowing is meant as a way for kittens to get their mother's attention. As the kittens grow, the mother eventually stops responding to the meowing, so the kittens stop meowing. However, humans continue to respond to it. So, when dealing with humans, cats meow because it is an effective way to get our attention.
This post is mostly BS stemming predominantly from gross overstatement.
1) no one has done a legit study on purring and health benefits, just small correlational studies that hold little value. 2) blinking has nothing to do with trust. 3) some* cats do not chew their food as it is technically unnecessary but many do chew their kibble. 4) cardboard is a terrible insulator in box form, discouraging body heat retention
5) cats have a better sense of smell than certain* breeds of dogs. 6) the meowing thing is completely false.
The meowing thing isn't completely false, feral cats are mostly silent. The truth of it is that feral cats eventually stop meowing as the mature, while house cats don't because they learn that it's a good way of communicating with/getting the attention of humans.
That no chewing one makes no sense because I wake every goddamn night listening to my cat chew her food just like the goddamn dog, she's so loud I can hear her BREATHING while it happens
I've been around cats all my life and I can tell you any time someone says "Cats do this because..." or "Cats like this because..." I wonder how many cats they've actually known. Some cats like the same things and do the same things but no two are alike or predictible for long - so these arguments are also ridiculous. Depends on your own experience.
Tell you one thing, though: I have calico who once looked me dead in the eye, hiked up her haunches, and let-er-rip on the wall, like "Ha ha. Come and get me, B*tch!" As I hauled up off the sofa and went after her it was pretty clear she MEANT to p*ss (pun intended) me off. Some cats are natural trouble makers. Some aren't. All of them are probably aliens, though. Someone should "study" THAT.
