It's not clinginess. It's various combinations of overseeing you, reminding you they're the boss, and enjoying their favorite bed/couch/pillow/toy, which is usually you, or whatever you're trying to use(see reson numbers 1&4), and just messing with you for fun.
Ok, how is stating a scientific fact "advocating". It is random trivia. I'm not defending their actions, or condemning them. They are animals. They eat meat.
My cat is so clingy that when he sleeps on my bed at night, he will curl up next to me in such a way that the only way I can lie comfortably is to drape my arm over him and give him a hug

One of mine sleeps on my belly, the other sleeps on my bladder
I have a 20lb solid black scaredy cat, capital SCAREDY, who will only come out of hiding during the day occasionally, but has to sleep next to me everynight. He has is own little raised bed on the edge of mine and if I am not laying down when he is ready to climb up there he will cry pathetically
I have another that runs around all night and wakes you up at three in the morning by licking your eyelids, another that sleeps on the same patch of sofa every night, so it's covered in white fur and another one that has shown up today for the first time since August at a vets thirty miles away and has so far made weird eye contact with the others
I have one cat that, if I and only I make eye contact with him will meow like crazy. He headbutts me and boop my nose with his paw constantly and when I pet my other cats he come runnig and push them away
By weird eye contact, I mean he has held eye contact with the others for up to ten minutes at a time and they have gotten uncomfortable and walked away
