I've read this so many times, I will never stop loving it! Dogs are angels on earth to show us how to love with no thought about themselves. Total and complete love. Nothing else is capable of the kind of love they bestow on everything in their lives.
My mom had 2 labs one after the other. The first one was Sandy my Dad got her for my mom when my Mom came home from the hospital. She was having breathing problems when she slept to the point where she stopped breathing. So she had to have a sleep machine. Well one night the machine broke and normally the machine make a buzz sound if it suddenly turn off to wake the person. Well it didn't and my mom stopped breathing. Luckily Sandy was in the room. At first she licked my moms face than her feet. But nothing worked. SO Sandy climbed onto the back of my moms love set in her bed room and jumped from it landing square on my mom's chest. My Mom sit straight up gasping for air. She saved her life. And when Sandy past away my Dad got Cajun a black lab for her. And she saved my mom's life as well. My Mom took a nap and forgot to put on the machine. After a few minutes the dog went nuts howling and barking and going between the bedroom door and my Mom.
She lick my Moms face and than scratch at the door. Finally my brothers come to let her out but instead she goes to my Mom they think she will wake her so they go to get her. But instead she climbs up on my mom. And that was when my Mom woke up gasping for air. So ever since than my Mom will only get Labs as her pets.
Remmy probably thought that because he slept alone, and differently, his "pack" kicked OP out. I guess he assumed himself OP's protector?
My collie will do the same thing, in a way. At around 4 AM every night, he walks into my room very quietly, gets on the bed right next to me and puts his paw on my chest. He's instantly awake if I hold my breath. It's probably because I'm a right-side sleeper and my family are all back sleepers, or he just cares about me. He always leaves at 6.
I love this behavior because it shows that he cares for me and is willing to protect me. It also makes for amazing snuggles.
I used to have two dogs, but one of them died this friday, and honestly like 70% of the reason it's so hard on me is because the surviving dog sits at the front door everyday waiting and whining for her to come back :(
Aww, poor baby.
If you have two dogs and one dies, the best thing is to show the living dog the body so they understand why their friend isn't coming back.
He was just smelling your butt the entire time.
