That's because every place that has adopted communism skipped the "steps" that marx laid out... Capitalism was supposed to come to an end before communism could be applied, but the first country to adopt communism (russia) didn't even have a capitalist period. Marx's idea was for communism to be applied on the most modern wealthy countries, which is were it would supposedly work, the countries which applied it weren't "ready" or "appropiate" for it
That's pretty cool. I heard if one time, an ai was instructed to play a game that gets progressively harder. It was supposed to not die as the main objective and when the game got too hard, just ended up pausing the game. So we have to be careful. Anyway, what I said I didn't actually mean. I just want some philosophical debate.
Communism can encompass a wide array of beliefs and ideologies. Basically, what is described here is the Marxism (minus the class struggle, which is really half of all communism anyway), which is the most well known school of communism. There's also Stalinism, Leninism, Utopian Communism, Titoism, Maoism...there's a bunch of it.
The two main problems with communism are:
1. No incentive to work. People who have harder jobs like doctors or lawyers would get paid the same as cashiers and fry cooks. In an ideal society, emotions would not get in the way, and everyone would do it purely because they care about the other members of society, but... We really don't care about others. We want to get paid fairly.
2. It's so easy for someone to take advantage of the government. Well, there is no government. So any strong guy with a glock or an assault weapon could become the new dictator.
All in all, the only people who say capitalism sucks are people who have never tastes true communism or socialism. I used to be one of those people who think communism is good, and people were jut ignorant to how good it is. But I realize now thay once you look into it, you realize that capitalism sucks, but communism sucks even more
Only a slight correction, communism does have a government (one in the hands of the common workers). The system without a government is anarchism and they are actually against each other, at least historically.
This reminds me of that "documentary" Sicko. People go to communist Cuba for dirt cheap meds and sob about how corrupt America is for charging an arm and a leg for something almost given away in Cuba. All hail communism! Except communism didn't have anything to do with the development, testing or production of these meds. They were made by an American capitalist company who created a product at the cost of billions of dollars and expected to be rewarded for their hard work. Those rewards will then be poured into new drugs allowing the cycle of discovery to continue. Every American has this opportunity to be rewarded for dedicated work and has the right to spend it on whatever they want. This forcing of advancement is not found in communism, so all advancements die. All hail dying a young malnourished death at the hands of communism! (Death from malnourishment was so common in Cuba that the government actually legalised a capitalistic system only for the growing and selling of food.)
badasslatina: I think the reason that there has to be a capitalistic period before communism is so that all the needed things--machinery, factories, ways to obtain and refine raw materials--have to be in place. That is, before communism can be a parasite, there needs to be a host to provide ready resources. Under communism, the government can plan poorly for decades and still "live off of" the economic workings that they appropriated in the name of the workers.
The AI became suicidal.
