They have made a lotof advances in milking, but not all dairy farmers use the most advanced stuff. Still, its far better than not milking at all, like you said.
Even the older systems were not all bad but 99% of systems had to be upgraded after 2001 to meet new sanitation regulations and most get upgraded every couple years anyway because parts wear out and they get to the point that's its just more economical to replace the whole unit. But yeah not milking a cow can eventually kill them.
They don't kill the calf, they made sell it, but unless it's a veal farm they aren't going to waste an animal that could be worth ALOT of money when it's full grown. A cow produces more milk than a calf can drink.
Dairy industry is quite horrifying at big scale
Their "ubres" (i don't know how to say it in english but it's like "cow boobs") get infected and they get pregnant at a rate that affect the cow's health
It's because the people take away the cows child to collect the milk. Milk cows produce way more milk than regular cows. Of course it hurts them when we don't milk them. But that's because we want it like that. Naturally the milkflow would stop like it does with humans.
First, modern milk cows have been breed to produce far more milk then her calf could ever drink. Beef cows have been breed to reach slaughter weight very quickly. Second, both are still regular cows. Third, pain from full udders did not originate from humans, that's pure nature. Fourth, milkflow does stop eventually if milking is slowed down, but these cows are literally alive for only one reason, to make milk. Fifth, constant pregnancies are needed because long periods between calves will actually decrease milk quality. This is a long post, but it's best to know what you're actually talking about.
And you don't see anything wrong with that?? There is no such thing as "Modern cows" and constant rape of an animal is fucking disgusting just so you can have your diabetes cereal in the morning.
The whole dairy system is extremely cruel, violent, and anything but humane. No they don't kill the cows, they just keep them locked inside forever and separate them from their babies at birth. That being said, the post is still funny.
The dairy farms I've been on have the cows at pasture and only bring them in for milking. They also keep the mother with the calf to encourage continued lactation so they don't have to go through constant pregnancy.

i worked on dairy farms as a kid. the cows are always really happy. the barns are always really clean. believe me i shoveled their shit for hours a day.
Its still cruel as the cows are forced to breed more so that they can produce more milk, it might hurt the cows if they are not milked but what is worse is that the milk that is meant for the calf is given to humans.
