Carpets in bathrooms are unhygienic. Carpet on stairs are the same as on floors

I'm not use to seeing carpet on stairs. My nans had them and it grossed me out because of the dirt, mold, food, and nicotine residue found in her carpets. That's mainly the reason why places(hotel,bowling alley) with carpets are dark. It's easier to hide messes. Also I'm not really into carpets because to it clutters up the place more.

This only looks bad because you can't see the sides of the stairs, in real life you would use the edges where they meet the walls to tell where the steps are.
