The thing is, though, laws typically explain WHAT happens. Its a description and an observation. On the other hand, theories explain WHY something happens, or the cause of it. Theories don't become laws, since they don't address the same things.
I don't know, but that wouldn't make it a law. It's not that a scientific theory is lesser than a law. It's just something different. A *hypothesis* can, by proving it, become a theory, so then it becomes the commonly accepted way to describe a phenomenon.
Have you heard of the LAW of gravity? It's a law because it's been proven via the scientific method. The THEORY of evolution is a theory because it hasn't been proven, and is in fact, full of contradictions and mutually exclusive tenets.
The fact that anyone thinks that evolution and gravity are on the same footing makes me weep for our educational system.

Until we find another planet with life on it where we can observe evolution first hand, we will never be able to fully prove evolution.
