This quote is from 2004, coming from a man in his 60s who had been fighting against what he called political correctness since the late 1970s. And a LOT has happened in the public discourse since 2004. If you really followed Carlin thru his work, you cannot possibly believe that he'd be advocating the narrative todays alt-right is spreading, and he'd totally kick most peoples asses who refer to him in general and this quote in particular, trying to defend chauvinist hate speech against criticism. What he fought against was not the attempt to counter discrimination but to silence people you don't agree with. As soon as you start criticizing alt-righters for WHAT they say, not for the act of saying it, they pretend someone wants to silence them which is a total abuse and misrepresentation of what he meant. He wanted open minds and open words on BOTH sides of an argument. The alt-right point at the special snowflakes but mean anyone who criticizes them.
But who defines who is "alt-right"? If you mean the 200 people who shows up at the neo-nazi convention, then yes, if you mean the millions that voted for Trump, then no. Who decides what is hate speech? Is it just speech that disagrees with someone's beliefs? Or speech that may point out something that is true, but uncomfortable for someone to hear? When you get to determining who watches the watchers, that's where the whole idea of policing speech breaks down, and that's where Carlin was always going with his thoughts. There is never a good reason to censor speech, no matter what the speech is.
There is a big difference between instigating speech, like "Burn this m-fer down" and "I don't believe in gay marriage". One is actually calling for violence, the other is a statement of opinion and shouldn't ever be censored.
I think there's way, way more alt-righters than there are feminazis and other SJW combined, definitely a lot more than 200. For each open alt-righter, theres a lot of cowards and assholes who just come out anonymously in the net, cause they hate getting called bigots, alt-righters and assholes. And I am totally convinced that the damage the alt-righters do to society are a lot worse than any political correctness ever could. And please please please... try to mind your words. Who the fuck is ever !!censored!! for saying s/he doesn't believe in gay marriage? What is "censorship" in your opinion? Each and every alt-righter can say whatever the fuck s/he pleases and the fucking worst thing that can happen is somebody expressing discontent. BoofuckingHoo. What about this guy who built his entire political career on being politically incorrect 24/7? Didn't some ... confused country elect him as fucking president?
The thing you forget to realize is that the MAJORITY of self proclaimed sjws and feminists are totally for censorship of public and private opinion, and want to ban behaviors and acts they they deem undesirable, whether they label is homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, or whatever the hell the term is. They don't just want to censor the boogey man of the alt right, they want to silence ALL dissenting and opposing thoughts, and create a bubble of safety for their misguided and even communistic-styled ideals of censorship and oppression of free speech. No one is talking about taking away the right to free speech to shut up feminists and sjws. Sjws are all about taking the right of free speech away so they can silence anyone who can formulate a thought that isn't in line with theirs.
As you're even capsing the word majority, you'll surely have some figures to back that up. No? You haven't? So you just took this shit out of where exactly? So tell me, how are "they" taking away your right to free speech, how are they silencing you? How do they ban your views? What grim consequences are you facing for being such a warrior against censorship? And most important? Why the fuck is the net so rim-full of the likes of you yapping about their rights being taken away, excercising just that right? So a handful of geeks call you names at tumblr? That's not exactly ending up in a PC gulag.
"It's not real if they can't prove it but it's real if I can't prove it"-Relating to the gender pay gap, That White Nationalists are on the rise and are set to gas gays and feminists
I have watched videos self proclaimed feminists have made on certain subjects and on broad topics. Every single one of them has leanings towards banning or censoring ideas and others that they do not declare fit to exist. They all disturbingly think along similar lines and have the weakest defenses for their ideas, the defense being a verbal counter-attack of racism/misygonism/sexism/transphobicism etc. My rights may not be in any danger. But If I don't stand up to defend them the opposition will think it is fine for them to walk over and strip them from me. Talking about why they are wrong to do that is one of the ways I draw attention from all sides rather create a space of yes-men/women who fawn over what I say.
"My rights may not be in any danger. But If I don't stand up to defend them the opposition will think it is fine for them to walk over and strip them from me. " - Again: how do you think this could happen? What could these horrible people do, like in practical terms? You have watched a few videos made by some irrational loons and that worries you they might take over and are set to gas freedom fighters like you? Trust me, for every twit making stupid SJW demands like in the videos you watched, there's at least one Rare Pepe twit making videos in the Upside Down. Now relax... you're not going to lose your right to be an ass in the public debate.
These people have done things, Gone to the UN and had an audience to listen to their crazy ideas, gone to college campuses and continued to fill heads with nonsense at the place where the population is educated. Have somehow infiltrated academia, no they broke the doors down and infested it because they were protected by their guise of "activism". Campuses don't let white nationalists speak to their students, so why should these nutjobs?
Hm, what you say "these people" have done sounds like exercising their right to free speech. You certainly don't have a problem with that, do you? And I'm still missing the part where "they" keep you from exercising _your_ right to free speech.
Where I can't call them out on all the erroneaus jabbering they do when Sarkeesisan wanted to list my critiscism as hate speech, and even simple insults as such. "Fat Cow" doesn't seem like a thorughly thought out attack on her life, more like a simple and easy way for a person to state their displeasure with Anita. Every feminist who has gotten shit flung right back after them when they say inflammatory things claim they are under attack, when they in fact provoked the troll under the bridge. It's why I don't have much sympathy for these pseudo-activists who have an irrational hatred for men who speak in disfavor of their ideas.
Was your "criticism" listed as hate speech or did just someone ask for that? And if you were: getting restricted by the private owners of a private site in what you can do there is _silencing_ you? That makes you exactly the whiny little alt-right bitch I called you from the beginning. You are not being silenced, you're being challenged, in your opinion by lesser people than you. Cry me a river little Pepe.
It's the reverse actually. Feminists are allowed to say whatever they want becuase of "feminism" and people got sick and tired of being judged as if they were the nazi equivalent of a retard. Alt-right is just another meaningless smear people like yourself use to lay false blame and try to assume moral superiority. Newsflash, you lot have a hell of a lot in common with Hitler, the left-leaning if not outrightly socialistic nationalist, so don't try to act as if I have anything in common with the Nazi Party. He argued for a lot of things you lot believe in, like birth control, welfare programs, unemployment programs, free public healthcare, gun control, and achieving a classless, equal society. They also happened to be one of the easily most distingushiable villians on the face of the earth.
Wow, you're so desperate you have to turn to telling what I have in common with Hitler? So actually, what you're telling me is that I'm 100% accurate in what I wrote, and you have exactly zero (0) backup for your claims and you really are in fact a whiny little Pepe tired of all the micro and macro aggression of liberal goody two shoes calling you a sorry dope just for acting a sorry dope. Aww...
You pulled the Nazi card first.
That's what alt-right means, isn't it?
Why the fuck else would you associate it with evil people and then use it as an insult?
tarotnathers13th is right, "safe spaces" and hate speech laws are being used by the left to silence any differing opinions.
You guys share the same tap water, right? I have literally never ever called anyone a nazi except he is clearly pro Nationalsozialismus. Alt-righters are not nazis, they are too simple minded to even grasp a political theory like national socialism. They are lardy, saturated and still semi.privileged assholes who can't rely on the full privileges, like their fathers and grandfathers could, and who have every reason to fear competition from women and non whites. The kind of idiot who think Al Bundy and The Meninist are really great role models. Their leaders are super flamboyant, anti-social pricks who laugh louder at the idiocy of their disciples than I ever could. Main difference is that I have mercy for them, guys like Milo don't. Twits like you just wanna bitch around on groups one would not expect you'd bitch on, to appear way more original than you probably are. And another very special snowflake.
You say so many things that it would be a trip and a half going through it all of it's errors and falsities. Not to mention you lack so much character in devolving to insult me repeatedly. It has no effect, but the rest of your arguments swallows itself when I see how you twist to try to label me as some sort of hugely racist and ignorant prick. And you assume I am white. And I have no idea or clue who the hell Al Bundy and the Meninist are, and why they are relevant. How in the world am I a Nazi as you claim?
Sorry little Pepe, its really hard to explain something a little more complex to someone whose attention span is already overstretched by this look there's a squirrel have you had your milk and cookies yet?
.
No, I really, really did not call you a nazi. U 2 dumb to be a nazi.
"I have literally never ever called anyone a nazi except he is clearly pro Nationalsozialismus"
I'm still waiting for your proof. Sugar cookies are delicious by the way.
"you're being challenged, in your opinion by lesser people than you" What does this mean, and are you one of those lesser people? Could you define what a lesser person is?
Im not one, so it wouuld take one to know one, which is why I asked you.
"I'm 100% accurate in what I wrote, and you have exactly zero (0) backup for your claims"
With this level of confidence, you should be able to answer instead of deflecting.
Big difference between you me, you try to paint me out as a Nazi, I simply say you share views that Hitler once held. I'm not at all accusing you, just pointing out your hypocrisy.
I say alt-right, you guys say thats like calling you nazis, which is just bullshit. Then you assume a lot of pretty random opinions I allegedly have and tell me I share them with Hitler, which is even more bullshit. Just as an example: the third reichs "birth control" program wasn't exactly a matter of choice, it was called euthanasia, you may want to look this up. His welfare and unemployment programs were mainly aid programs for the armaments industry, and the the third reich was pretty much the opposite of a classless, equal society. Which makes you the king of clueless bullshitters. Following your 'logic" Bernie Sanders would be Hitlers stepson btw. Well, you probably believe that anyway, right Pepe?
If you remember, German-blooded folks who were not jewish lived pretty well under Hitler. Pretty equal and fair, considering anyone could join the SS as long they followed the rules, and you played along to the fiddle of the grumblers and didn't stray out of line. And if these aren't your opinions, just say as such and dismiss them as invalid points made. Nothing against Bernie, but Venezuala had money, and now it is getting pretty dire over there. Socialism directly rewards the lazy, and gives no encouragement to those who do work, and does not reward those who work diligently or cleverly. So yeah, I'm against Bernie in that regard, but I wouldn't go as far to say he's the stepson of Adolf Hitler.
"I have literally never ever called anyone a nazi except he is clearly pro Nationalsozialismus"
This also doesn't sound like I'm being called Alt-right
As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about. German-blooded is super typical nazi-speak, and - as most of what they said - its bullshit from a scientific point of view. The german people consist of 5-6 quite different tribes, with different languages, cultures and looks, we became a nation only in 1815. Normal people from northern and southern germany couldn't even talk to each other in their daily language then. Also you could have been as "german" as could be, if you had the wrong political view, the wrong sexual preference, were mentally ill or handicapped: boom, you were a lampshade. What you described in your post is completely true for any totalitarian state, no matter if nazi germany, north korea, cuba, whatever. None of my views have anything in common with what nazis believed, while you express a lot of things that are absolutely typical (and unique!) for alt-right. Bite the carpet all you want, it's still a fact. Now get some sleep, Pepe.
I wonder if you need any sleep yourself. Didn't know you were German going by the "we" there. I still don't know what Alt-Right means either. What views have I expressed that paint me as "Alt-Right"?
Honestly, define what makes someone "Alt-Right" or you are just making disingenuous accusations. Highlight it out, and the way I think and act may change.
How about most of your delusionally paranoid postings in this thread, displaying exactly the pet peeves of any righteous alt-righter out there? Gamer girls, feminists, pc police et.al. Most of that could be found on any comment section on breitbart news. You know what they say: if it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd, it's probably not mousse au chocolat.
Uh, when did I whine about gamer girls? I've brought points up about how Sarkeesian's really interested in policing what I say, and how policitical correctness is used to hide flaws of ideas and policies without taking into account that some criticsm is necessary for healthy and strong ideas to flourish. And by the way, the Alt-Right is a response to things from the Left like Polictical Correctness and Race carding. They'll be there as long as those are still acceptable points the Left upholds. If they just stopped playing the ridiculous game they have going on, accusing the oppostion of the newest buuz-word to socialy stigmatize, the Alt-right would fizzle out of existence either becasue there's no reason to oppose something that doesn't exist, or becuase they'll eventually spout points that no one wants to support. Hell, Trump might've not made it into the White House if they had cleaned up their act and cared about ALL Americans.
Funny how you are so silenced and can't stop writing fucking novels about it. And funny how you use the expression "race carding" and pretend to not even know what alt-right would possibly be.
And funny how you seem to have been waiting an hour for a posting from me to dislike the very fucking minute I posted it. What a very, very little person you are...
Alt-right promotes white nationality and pride in same way the Left likes to use minorities and the like to get elected. Plus, I'm not disliking your comments. Some other people are watching from a bystanders point and they don't agree with you, hard as it to believe.
If anything, assuming a snide air of superiority makes you look bad, no effort on my part. Nothing I've said attacks you on a personal level, and if I have, then I apologize.
Yea, I'm a prick, you got that right. It's just so neatly timed ;-) - and now you had to wait so long to prove me wrong :-p - which you totally didn't have to, of course.
.
"Alt-right promotes white nationality and pride in same way the Left likes to use minorities and the like to get elected. " funny how a moment ago you didn't know what alt-right was altogether, and now you're analyzing them. And what you're saying is they're not really into white nationality (??) and pride but promote it to get elected? Cause only then that sentence would at least make formal sense.
I can use google you know. Found a very informative video on the Alt-Right. Wanted to see what they were since you weren't telling me anything about them besides that I was an Alt-Righter. Believe me, the Left doesn't actaully care about Blacks in terrible situtations, only that as long as those situations convince them to vote Democrat, then of course they don't do anything to stop those occurences. At least with the Alt-Right they can say that they want to takes steps so bad things don't have as much of a chance of happening, or having a negative effect.
downvote me like the little bitches you are, sounds good
sorry you're so upset that political correctness doesn't let you be as big an asshole as you're used to being
Playing the devil's advocate here:
Gay people deserve to go to hell and should be burned alive. Black people should be gassed and we should put the Japanese back in internment camps. Gosh, don't you love the world without political correctness?
Have you never read his books or listened to his speeches? Carlin wasn't talking about hate speech. There is a huge difference between hate speech and political correctness.
https://youtu.be/asZ1R-Xylj4
Well, all points aside, Carlin was spot on about political correctness being a tool used to censor others speech, but it's more worrying when it's used to edit someone's life, including their choices of entertainment, how they dress, what they do, and what kind of hairstyle is acceptable for them to have. Political correctness is a evolving form of political censorship, and whenever I see extreme examples of it, it reminds me of a strange bizarre pseudo-reverse of what goes on in communistic countries that ban homosexual activity and stifle public outcry on pain of death.
"Have you never read his books or listened to his speeches?" - well of course not, apparently. Most people who "love the guy" and think he was "so awesome" only know this quote and a few similar. His famous "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television" are shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits. Isn't that cute, from todays perspective? I'm pretty, pretty sure he wouldn't have defended white idiots saying "if blacks can call each other Nigger, then why can't I, that's racist!" or bullshit like that. He would have fought for their right to say it, but he would have trashed them to rubble for actually saying it. And guess who would've called him a SJW trying to kill free speech for that... kind of ironic, innit?

What if this speech encourages people to actually act on the words? Is the enabler not at fault?
