That is easy ... and I think a obvious yeah, did you forget the part about them being pursued and trying to get away and probably don't give a fuck if they do hit something/ someone...
Most vehicles would be stopped in a matter of seconds.
It's not a perfect way to end chases, but it's faster than current tactics, and that minimizes the potential for collateral damage.

Just ignore Smokey, the guy is so far up his own ass that he seems to have lost the ability to be civil.
Haha hey i asked an innocent question i just wanted to know if it was able to prevent the vehicle from swerving in to things or not a simple no would have been sufficient but if you want to be condescending and rude have at it :)
It's also worth mentioning that the thing has a detachable cable attached to the police vehicle, so the officer would be able to exercise a measure of control over the perp unless there was a huge weight disparity, in which case see my initial response.
See, that was all I was wondering because this gif keeps coming up and it's awesome! I just was wondering how much it was actually able to do (exactly what you explained to me) I appreciate the civil and informative answer.
I said this the last fucking time this was posted, this won't work:
1) This is a slow, surface street speed demonstration. At highway speeds, especially at highway speed chase speeds, it's an entirely different scenario.
2) These test and demonstration drivers are professionally trained drivers who know how to keep a vehicle under control when there's a sudden loss of traction. They're also expecting it to happen.
3) The catching and caught vehicle are trucks. You're not getting one of them up to highway chase speeds to catch a sports car. Show me one catching a Corvette at 150+.
This will either be unusably ineffective and/or result in a catastrophic and probably fatal accident.
That's exactly what I thought. Even hitting a foot or two of black ice in the winter with one wheel at 15 mph makes my butthole retract into my stomach. And I'm not even under the stress of being arrested. Now a high speed chase weaving around things and then suddenly your back wheel locks up is gonna lead to some very nice panic.
